Yet another diabetes ??

I know that emotional & physical stress can elevate sugars.

I am curious if anyone has tested their sugars during a stressful time (lets say an arguement at home or $$ problems while paying bills) & their sugars are automatically out of the norm?

Does it seem to have an immediate affect or a general long term affect depending on the trigger of stress?

Sorry Melissa, I know this isn't exactly what you were asking, but my sugars are usually a bit lower, because my biggest stressers lately involve rushing around trying to get things done (cleaning house, etc.) or trying to get out of the house on time...I would also be interested in hearing anyone's experience with the "nonrushing around stress" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> . I know pms messes with mine, and they tend to run higher that week...lots of mental stress then, but then horomones are out of whack, too, so...

Many times it depends on the person. For example, my mom has Type 2 diabetes, and when she is stressed her sugar level goes skyrocketing. Me on the other hand, when I get stressed mine tends to plummet, and I get massave headaches. Since Chris has been gone, my levels have actually been pretty low, but, I still feel like crap.

I haven't tested specifically at those times, but I do know they cause my sugars to rise. I'm not the best at charting either, so I can't tell you just how much it's a factor, I just know it does show up.

I think the ? of immediate vs long term all depends on you personally handle stress. And so the answer would vary from person to person.
I don't know what kind of insulin you are on...but if you see that your numbers are running higher due to stress, and you expect the stress to continue...perhaps consider upping the long acting insulin to help, like you would if you were sick and numbers were higher.
