My daughter with cf is now 18 and over the years we have tried out/added a lot of supplements along the way. I really think some have made a difference. Others we have discarded and have not really noticed any adverse affect from having done so.

We are in a transition time now with daughter taking up responsibility for care and making active choices regarding supplements etc. I know we will probably not get our supplements down to just three, but just wondering what everyone's top three supplements would be - if you could only choose three, what would they be?

Hi
I would like to suggest you look at supplements by USANA. They are the worlds highest rated nutritional supplement manufacturer. Good nutrition is part of the battle against this disease & the best vitamins and nutritional supplements could be benificial. USANA's founder, Dr. Myron Wentz, has the expertise in cellular research to produce the finest nutritional products on the market and since individuals with CF are literally in a battle for their lives, it makes sense to use superior products that actually cross the cellular membrane. They are made to the pharmacutical standards & have a potency guarantee so you really can't get much better quality. You only requested 3 supplements. I know that a USANA Scientist has a recommended list of supplements to take however the top 3 on that list would be their "Essentials" a multimineral & antixodant, Proflavanol C100 a potent antioxidant Blend of Grapeseed Extract & Vitamin C, & BiOmega3 a pure Omega3 (Fish Oil) supplement, if you would like the complete list or more detailed info on these products please email me & I will forward you what you require. To view more info about the above products Click Here . I hope this helps.

PharmaNAC (n acetylcistene for glutathione production boost, lung repair)

Vit D / Calcium (I'm chronically just below normal on D which helps immune system i think, i use inhaled steroids and occasionally oral which depletes bone mass)

I don't have a third :) hopefully you get more responses.

Study after study show the vits are absorbed better from food. So i do make a big effort to eat/cook well: fish (omegas); spices like turmeric, capsacin, ginger, oregano; nuts; beans; green leafies like kale, collards, dried seaweed.

I think it's great that you're helping your daughter streamline things and work toward independence. (When i was 18, i ate dorm food in college and it was low on spices but good in terms of veggies. When i was on my own later, i ate out or had microwave nachos...at least NYC had my fave foreign foods.)

Thank you Melissa,
Yes I am in the process of trying to hand things over - not an easy task and trying to concentrate on the most important things rather than bombard her with too many things.
We are using a product for glutathione production also, called Cellgevity, Vitamin D, Multivitamin, Krill oil, extra Vit C, Garlic and Horseradish, probiotic....it sometimes seems like a lot when you add it all to medications.
I agree, diet is the best primary source for most things, probably with the exception of the n acetylcistene and Vitamin D.
Thanks again for your input,
Jenny

I'm glad for this post! I find all the supplement discussions confusing but want to ensure I am maximizing my CFers health. I have spent hours and hours pursuing the links on various CF sites, exploring suggestions for diet, exercise, and supplements. My little one has explained to me lately that he sure takes a lot of medicines . . . He's just beginning to want to understand at 7. So I want to maximize health . . . with minimal supplements at this point. What has been solidly shown to be the most helpful consistently? We are prescribed the vitamins of course, so we take a children's multivitamin and Source CF. So besides those, what else. . . Probiotics? Magnesium? Omega 3s? Antioxidants? What else?

High quality multivitamin, I like New Chapter bc its from live plant sources so that gives it high absorption. New Chapter's antioxidant formula to fight free radicals and repair tissue. And the 3rd is a tie between probiotics bc I'm always battling the effects of antibiotics (yeast), OR Omegas, again for immune strength and tissue repair.
