Yuck! Antibiotics=thrush

I actually had to call the CF nurse today because they screwed up a referal for me. So while I had her on the phone I asked about it. She said diflucan works for some people so I should start taking it. If it doesn't help then they'll give me the mouth wash. This is actually the first time antibiotics have given me thrush. Usually I get the Dreaded Bread Disease down south. If I had to pick I'd take the thrush though. This is uncomfortable but not too bad.

I have a problem with yeast, over many years. This winter I was taking Cipro - 750 bid x 14 days THREE times, also Advair and Tobi. My tongue was thickly coated and had fissures in it.
I had nystatin "swish & swallow" for 3 times @ 10 days each but now that I am back on Tobi it is coming back. I wonder, does it go to your lungs?

Yeah, I have been on Diflucan with yeast. One thing to watch out for (especially those who are on coumadin like myself) watch out for those bleeding times! Diflucan can raise your times dramatically, I actually had to be taken off of coumadin while I was on Diflucan because my INR was almost 6!
All in all, I usually take the Nystatin swish and swallow as soon as I feel that burning in my mouth, have a big bottle at home. I am on IV's alot, so I am pretty aware of when to take the med. I agree that the lozenges are awful!
Acidophillus is also good to take, I also eat alot of yogurt with active cultures in them.

What is Bleeding times you mean monthlys or lung bleeds? and what does Diflucan can raise your times dramatically. What is INR almost 6?

Sorry I don't mean to pry but if you could tell me that would be great. I use diflucan when I do antibiotics and sometimes just right before my monthly for no apparent reason there is a prob. I asked about that and the nurse pract. at the obgyn office said sometimes that can happen.

I am so sorry I confused you....I am so used to tossing those terms around because I am on coumadin, blood thinners because of a history of blood clots to my lungs. To prevent that, my doc thins my blood (have to be careful with that because I am more prone to bleeds in the lungs or anywhere in the body)

I know that Diflucan can affect your blood when used with other drugs, coumadin is one and I believe antibiotics can as well. There are alot of other meds that interact with Diflucan, some in different ways such as heart rhythm disturbances. It just might explain why your periods are heavy at times. I bruise really easily, and have very heavy periods while on Diflucan. My son Jacob has had thrush for 20 of his 23 years, and the Diflucan will help for a short time. The way to keep it from coming back or at least to a minimun, is NO SUGAR! At all, no candy, fruit drinks, soda etc. It's been a great discovery!
