Damiens doc has put him on Zantac for reflux. In addition hes weight gain is low. I was wanting to see if anyones child had put on more weight after starting on Zantac. I was informed that enzymes somtimes dont work correctly when there is to much acid in stomach. And sometimes Zantac helps and the enzymes work better. Damien has gained one and one half pounds each month for the last three months. Dr R. is talking about G.I tests and I want to satisticly find out how many gained weight, and how much. <img src="i/expressions/light.gif" border="0">

Sorry i can't answer your whole question besides, that the Zantac should help with the weight gain as it will help aleviate his reflux.

I was also wondering how he's going with the Oregano oil on ythe heels. Has it made a difference? Have yuo noticed a change or is it still early day's yet?

My son w/CF is 3 and has used zantac twice a day since birth for the same reasons you state. It does seem to improve the quality of his digestion but I can't say how much it contributes to weight gain. So far the best thing for weight gain has been his recent craving for hamburgers, french fries and chicken nuggets.

DS was on zantac until he was about 1 1/2 years old. We were told it would help with the stomach acid and with his enzymes. I didn't notice a difference. He started being on it at 2 weeks old. His weight gain was probably from the cream and nestle's quik we added to his bottle at about 10 months when he went thru a picky eating/teething stage.

Thanks for the replies. Eli we put it on every night. I have no way to tell. I trust in homopathic properties and I think its good for the immune system so well keep doing it. I hope this zantac brings up the weight. I already notice hes more comfortable after eating. A lovely thing to see.

Hi All, Archie is on Zantac twice a day and his weight has been
good. He was put on Zantac as he was still showing fat in his
stools to help the enzymes work better. I think it does help a lot
as his poo's been good ever since and it helps with his reflux
although he still struggles with that a little. He is allergic to
milk and peanuts and who knows what so I think his reflux is worse
when I have eaten something that disagrees with him (breastfeeding
still). I am avoiding all milk products and nuts but sometimes he
still seems really unsettled after a feed.

Can I ask what the go is with the oregano oil - do you rub it on
your bubba's heels to help support his immune system - wouldn't
mind giving it a go. I'm in Australia, can we get OO here??

Our daughter was on Zantac when she was younger for reflux as well. As she got older (now 5 yrs old) they put her on Prevacid. The reflux has stopped and last year we tried to take her off the Prevacid. The result was no weight gain (or slight loss...can't recall). We put her back on and she is following the curve on the growth chart. She is still tiny but always has been (born under 4 lbs).
It may not help your child gain large amounts of weight but I believe it prevents weight loss.

I'm on Zantac once a day for acid reflux, although I find it isn't working for me, and I might need something stronger, I do notice that since being on it, my appitite has increased, but haven't noticed weight gain that's correlated to the med.
