Zenpep

I freaked out when my nurse told me how much Zenpep is going to cost me (even with health insurance).

My insurance does a cheap copay on generic drugs but with name brands-- NO COPAY!

One month on Zenpep is $300-500! and that is only one bottle (which will last me 1/2 of a month)!! Yikes!!

What do you do if you have a sad prescription plan and drugs like this cost an arm and a leg--- literally.

I got spoiled being on the state health discount program-- prescriptions where $15.

Yes, I am going to be applying for the assistance program with Zenpep but in the mean time I am in trouble!!

Yeah, pretty much my response to the FDA labels, I got generics, sure they aren't the best but they were better than nothing. I was lucky enough to stockpile some of my drugs, get samples or have some given to me. Hopefully, things change next year.
I don't know how people pay up front at once, that's my entire SSDI check!
Good luck guys..

$1,8000 dollars a month for stinking digestive enzymes! That's completely outrageous! I mean we're not talking about some revolutionary cutting edge drug here, we're talking about porcine enzymes for crying-out-loud. This is criminal in my mind, but, we have to pay for it because we are held hostage to our illness.

Wow--I am overwhelmed! My heart goes out to all of you. I always knew we had excellent insurance but now I am convinced we are truly blessed. We pay $30 for 12 bottles--insurance pays almost 2000.00. So unfair and inconsistent..................

I suspect you're dealing with the new enzymes being listed as nonformulary...

We have BCBS and once we meet our $1000 out of pocket maximum for the year, scripts are $15 for a 1 month supply of meds or $30 for 2-3 months supply; HOWEVER...

If the med is a nonformulary, then we're responsible for 50%. So when DS was switched from Pancrease MT10s to PancreazeTM we were shocked to find out that the only formulary enzymes on the list were Creon, a generic and ALL the older versions of enzymes that were no longer available as per the FDA.

And the list was dated July 2010. So we called BCBS and they said their committee was going to review the new enzymes and later called to inform us that they had no intention of including Zenpep or Pancreaze on the list.

So we could either pay $1900 for a 3 month supply or switch to creon. There was also the appeal process; however, DS' doctor was comfortable switching him to Creon. If we were unable to us creon or the doctor wanted him to stay on PancreazeTM then we had an attorney ready and available to fight it.
