Zinc

My son's been on zinc for a month and initially it was working great. He ate ravenously and gained a few pounds and inches. But his appetite seems to be tapering again. We are close to getting a tube too. We will have our appt. next week to see how he's doing and if we can put it off awhile longer, since he did gain. I think I got his doc to try the cyproheptadine too.

That's a good question- the references I've been able to find of it mention using it as a treatment for anorexia, so I assume it may serve as an appetite stimulant but nothing I read seems to specifically say exactly 'how' it works.

A pretty detailed article detailing the various uses for zinc and summarizing what the research is saying about it, to date: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-zinc.html">Medline Plus; Drugs & Supplements: Zinc</a>

Great minds think alike! After no one had answered my question after a few hours I Googled it, but I never really found a definitive answer that just spelled it out for me. But, I think it does have more to do with increasing appetite since a lot of the articles reference anorexia.
