Zithro (MWF) - No PA?

Thanks for the info guys.

I know it is not used to treat a PA exaserbation...but I was under the impression it was used to treat the inflammation caused by colonized PA. I think I had also read somewhere that it may help disrupt the comunication between the PA to help deter exaserbations and/or (I can't remember) keep it from going mucoid.

But I have read (in mouse studies) that it helps inflammation of CF lungs even when no PA is present.

So I think I will pursue this with the Dr.

I did ask him about the ibuprofen and he said that they rarely put patients on that anymore because they were having too many negative side effects.

ONE MORE QUESTION....

Have you noticed any negative side effects of using zithro MWF?

The study that the CF centers are currently going by is treating with ZIthro for PA positive patients.. either M, W, F, or low doses daily..

I only know this because up until recently I never cultured PA before and now I do and I am on it M, W, F,

I orginally thought it was for inflammation as well so I am confused, but my CF team in NJ said only for PA positive patients... I am now iN SC... so I dn't know..

Not much help.. and I have been to acute lately to know any difference in anything so I am not much of a help

Well see now I've learned something from you guys, which is that the study and your doc said it was to treat the inflammation from PA positive pateints. Thank you for clarifying. Interesting, because other than one positive PA culture we've been clean since. But we are still on Zithro. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

As far as the negative side effects of using it MWF, I haven't noticed any either way. We do have my daughter on a probiotic, though. And she is a little girl and not much of a complainer, so bless her heart it could be causing some side effect but she hasn't said.

My daughter is on Zithro M W and F for at least 2 years
she has never cultured PA only MRSA

If it was due to a study wouldn't we have had to sign something or gotten other documentation?
