My 2 year old is now on Zithromax. So many days on and off. Basically it is for all the sinus infections she has been getting. Is their anyone w/a as young child who has been on this antibotic? If so, how well did you find it to work? Also wanting to know if anyone w/this gene type will always have to take enzymes? I know this gene type is to be know as a blockage. But just wondering how you can tell if their bowel movements will ever be somewhat normal as to being on antibotics all the time. ????.Thanks, ang <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi Ang, I am a 30 yr old female with CF....and I have 2 copies of the delta F508. I also am on enzymes...and will be for the rest of my life. I have been on them ever since I was just a few weeks old....when I was diagnosed. As far as Zithromax goes....everyone is different....but it didnt do anything for me. I have sinus infections all the time....levaquin and tequin are the the best for me. Cipro is the best for respiratory infections for me. The only thing that I can say is that the enzymes should help the bowel movements be as normal as can be. Good luck and God Bless!Dea

Hello, I'm a 25yr old male with CF. I am actually on Zithromax as well. I take 500mg every other day. I've been on antibiotics for as long as I can remember because of the CF. Taking medication daily will possible be something that your child may need to get used to depending on the severity of his/her condition. You mentioned that your child is taking this because of a sinus infection, do he/she also have CF? I also need to take enzymes with every meal, as my pancrease has been effected from the CF as well. I currently take Ultrase MT20 tabs. 8-10 with snacks, 10-12 with meals. Checking the consistency of the bowel movements should give signs whether or not the antibiotics are affecting the digestive system. In some cases they cause diarreah. I actually find Zithromax to work quite well with myself. It is designed to work better with CF patience that have slow developeing Pseudomonas, which is my case. It is definitely best to ask as many questions as you can to your childs physician, then can work with you to maintaine the best possible quality of life for your child. If you ever have questions that you would prefer to ask someone that has been living with CF, feel free to e-mail me any time at "farbeyond1978@yahoo.com." Unfortunately I left work early today because of hemoptysis & I haven't been feeling well. I am actually waiting on a call back from my doctor and I may be admitted to the hospital for about a week. I will be sure to check to see how your doing once I'm back. I wish the best to you and your family,MikeP.S Don't worry about me mentioning the hospitalization, I will be fine... it's actually not as bad as it sounds.

Ang,I have a 3 yr. old with DeltaF508x2. She takes a lot of enzymes and gets frequent sinus and ear infections. She is on a list waiting for tubes for her ears, but I'm hoping it corrects itself before then. She has not tried Zithromax, but has tried many others. Last week she had one and I treated it with a simple saline solution in hopes that she could fight it on her own (I think at this age it is worth a try). I tried Sterimar this time and it worked wonders. She did not need the antibiotics and her ears seem fine. Maybe it is just good luck that got us through this one, but I will try it again next time. You may also want to try it in combination with the Zithromax next time.As for the bowel movements I find if you are on a certain antibiotic for any extended period of time the body adjusts and the stools return to normal. Give it time and see how it goes. Good luck. I know it can be frustrating to watch a young child and not be able to help them more. AM
