I find I have less flare up of my infections. The only side effect I have is a stomach ache every Monday. I figure it is better than taking another neb.

My doctor advised me to take Zithromax 3 times a week, but I declined. I have a moderate case of CF and each time I'm on any antibiotic I get terrible thrush and yeast infections below which lasts for a month or two. On the same note, I had to also stop TOBI and Flovent for those reasons. Now, I don't take any antibiotic unless I have no other choice. I think all women with CF should be more careful with the usage of antibiotics. Not to mention, it's one more medication that your body can become resistant to. I'm now resistant to Cipro, Levaquin, and Bactrim. Zithromax is the last oral drug left. I wish I would have not "jumped the gun" to take antibiotics when I was in my teens. It messed me up.

I'm supposed to be on it 3x a month.. but for the moment .. i just don't have the money for it... my insurance company is useless .. they don't have perscription play on it they give you a $150 "slush fund" that's supposed to cover your perscriptions and your eye doctor appointments and glasses.. give me a break.. if i want glasses.. it will clost $150 for the appointment now and the re-lensing of my glasses... anyway... zithromax is a long lasting antibiotic. It can stay in your system i believe it was for up to two days or something along those lines.. it also has been found to increase the effectiveness of the tobi and it's a good anti inflamitory... or that's what my doctors tole me when i asked... i have never actually had a bad experience with zithromax... it's usually the cipro that gets things out of balance...

It upsets me when I see that people can't pay for their med's, I know it is a constant battle with us and our 4 year old with cf. Last year alone, just on his regular pharmacy medicines alone and not any home IV or hospital med's his total for the year was over $32,000.00!!!!! Fortunately "right now" we have good insurance for him. It is a never ending battle though.
