Zoysn side effects

Hi all,

I just started IV zoysn and am having horrible diarrhea all the time (sorry if that is TMI). I usually get this every time I go on IVs but looked on the internet and am now freaking out that I have C. Diff or something like that.

Does anyone else get this side effect and what have you done about it?

I have had that problem when being on Zoysn. I've never been on it long enough for the docs to do something different just to combat that. Usually they just say try and drink lots of water. Also If you are worried about C Diff they can test you for it. Its simple. I have gotten C Diff before. Its no fun.

yup, that is a Zosyn side effect. Make sure you take a probiotic several times a day. I had major diarrhea the first time I was on zoysn as well and learned my lesson. Now I take lots of probiotics and it helps minimize the diarrhea.

I am new to the whole probiotic thing. What do you take? I have been told to have a lot of yogurt but I don't think all yogurt (or at least the fruit on the bottom I have) have probiotics. I will try anything!

You need much more healthy bacteria then what is in yogurt to make a difference in this case. I take primal defense ultra. When I am on antibiotics, especially zosyn, I take it 4 times a day, about an hour before each meal and bedtime snack. Take with lots of water. After a couple weeks I will up it to 2 pills at a time. Its best if you can start this as soon as you start the antibiotics. It won't hurt to start now, but don't expect it to stop your diarrhea immediately. It's going to be hard to build your healthy bacteria back up, until you stop the zosyn.

I just found some that my fiance has so I will start tonight. The only problem is that I am currently getting sick and throwing up a lot of my pills because of my cipro so I don't know how much will get in me. I am quite a mess I guess<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I just got off of 14 days of Zosyn. I had the same side affect. Very bad diarrhea. It lasted for about a week after stopping it. Towards the ends it actually burn to go to the bathroom. Its no fun at all. Make sure to drink lots of fluids and ad some gatorade too. To combat the diarrhea you could try yogurt. Most yogurts have probiotics. I haven't seen one that doesn't actually. It say right on it (active cultures). throwing up along with diarrhea is cause for concern because of dehydration. Make sure your dr is aware of what is going on, you made need to get fluid boluses to make sure you are adequately hydrated
