My doctor just last week told me to start taking it every other day. 500mg every other day. He also told me to take my Cipro only as needed, but when I feel I do need to, he want s me to take it for 2 weeks straight and not take the Zythromax.

I take Zithromax 500mg every other day. I am also on Bactrim and Cipro right now, but my doctor did not tell me to go off the Zithromax.I am curious, to CFStang...what was the problem with Zithromax and a mycobacteria, do you know the nature of it other than there was some interaction?

I have been on Zithromax 250mg everyday for the past 5 years. I have a port in my chest so oral meds don't really work to well so I just get the IV's.

hi guys, i have just stumbled accross your site, wasn't sure what would come up when i type cf.com. I am from england and have been taking zythromax since last July and didn't have any ivs until October last year, plus i survived a flu bug and my husbands flu bug at christmas and i am just about to begin a course of ivs tomorrow, now considering that i was on ivs every 4 weeks thats very good for me, my cough is much less, i have much more energy and just feel much better on zythromax. My doc was not convinced when i started it that it was a wonder drug but to me it is. It is not widely used at my clinic for some reason.Chezza

I used to take 250mg a day. I did that for about a year. My doctor took me off last month. I didn't see that it was helping. Now I am not on anything but Tobi once a day.

I'm taking Zithromax 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and have been since December 2002. I believe it's the 500mg dosage. It seemed to help a lot at first, and I think it still is, but as time goes by, I get worse. So though it gets harder, I think the Zithromax is still keeping a lot at bay, so to speak. My only problem, being female, is that constantly being on antibiotics is a hassle as far as yeast infections go. Somewhere after I started it, I started taking two extra pills a day. Both over the counter, called Acidophilous, and the other being AZO yeast, and for the most part, they keep me yeast-infection-free. The only time I have trouble now is when I go on IV antibiotics, because those are much stronger. So if you're having trouble with the yeast issue, ask your doctor, and look for those two OTC drugs. They're very helpful in preventing the problem. -Emily

Does anyone else have down days between taking Zithromax Mon, Wed, and Fri.??? My daughter always seems like she is getting sick again by Monday and then all of a sudden is doing great. She takes it in the evening.

When I first started it, I saw that easily. Taking it Mon, Wed, and Fri, by the time Sunday night rolled around, I was starting to get sicker again, then Monday night when I'd take the next Zithro, I'd feel better pretty quickly. The thing that makes it obvious is because during the week, there's only one day in between each dose, while on the weekend I go Sat and Sun without any. It's "normal" as far as CF normal goes. I don't think it's a big deal. -Emily

As far as Zythromax goes, I am prescribed to take in Mon, wed, fri as well, like a lot of you. However, since my doctor said that the reason we take it every other day is because of the way it stays in your system, i TAKE it every other day, so... Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun, Tues, Thurs, Sat, Mon.....etc.Its not as easy as just being like "ok, its monday, i have to take zythromax," but i keep it straight in my head pretty easily.I dont really notice a difference then, because i never go two days without taking it.

I also take Azithromax and I do not seem to get sick as often now that I am taking it. To the last poster, my doctor told me that I could choose between taking 250mg every day or 500mg M/W/F...so according to my doctor it doesn't matter. I take 500 M/W/F, but only because that seems to be what most people do. Emily...another one lol, but I am only 19 (I will be 20 in less than a month though). I guess I will go by Em on this site so we won't be confused.
