Zyvox and tetracyclic anti-depressants

I know SSRI's and MAOI are most notorious for interacting with Zyvox and possibly causing serotonin syndrome. I take Remeron (mirtazipine) 30 mg which is a tetracyclic and although it is lower on the list than other types of anti-dpressants it still shows there is a high risk of interaction.

Even though I know I shouldn't stop taking the Remeron suddenly, I have done it before for a week or so at a time when I've ran out or something with no major effects. Anyhow I knew I was possibly going to start the Zyvox for my s. aureus sinus infection this weekend so I haven't taken the Remeron for 3 days. I can't find any info about if there is any period of time I should wait for this type of anti-deppressant I'm only finding the 2 week time period for ssri and maoi's...
I read that others have taken their anti-d with Zyvox no prob and that if you do take them together you should be more closely monitored, well I don't see that happening with my Dr since he didn't even mention any interaction to me and didn't say anything about even blood testing while I'm on it which I've also read is the norm.

I really want to start taking the Zyvox today because I am ready to get rid of this funk I've been in that started with my sinuses but I am just kind of nervous. I've taken Zyvox before but it's been a few years.

I suppose I could call the pharmacist but I was just hoping someone on here might have experience with this or could offer me a little advice, thanks in advance!

I take Lexapro. Even though it shows that Lexapro & Zyvox interact, the doctors said that Lexapro benefits are worth the risk. I can't take them at the same time. I usually take one then the next a few hours later. I have never had any issues or interactions. You are not suppose to stop Lexapro suddenly either. I rather risk the interaction than not have my Lexapro. I would be a mess if I stopped suddenly. But check with your doctor if you have any concerns. It never hurts to ask. Hope this helps.

The half-life of Remeron is listed as 20-40hrs. This means that 3 days you are below 25% of peak levels in ypur blood.

To be safe I'd give it another 24hrs and you should be fine.

Thanks for the replies, I went ahead and started it last night.
What sucks about not taking the Remeron is that I don't only use it as anti-depressant , I use it for it's side effects, drowsiness and increased appetite, and I can definitely see the difference in those 2 things more than the anti-depressant aspect when I don't take it. I usually take it at bedtime because it really helps me sleep and the last few nights without it I've stayed up really late and felt restless all night.

I think I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow and see if he would advice to still take it at least even half of one so it's only 15 mg. Thanks again for the replies <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
