    Weight Gain/Loss On Pain Meds

If you need to gain weight, you need to gain weight. How is it meaningless? I'm confused.

Running, can it replace a VEST session?

I'd say yes. It's better to do in addition to it, but try it and see. If it doesn't work out, make her do the vest.I do the vest once a day and do some intense form of cardio for 30-45 minutes, my lungs stay pretty clear. If I don't feel they are clear, I'll do two 30 minute sessions on the...

Pharmacutical vs Herbal -> Well researched herbal alternatives

Dank, HTS is hypertonic saline. Inhaled salt water basically. Helps thin mucus and cough makes you cough too. Workout schedule has taken some time, just do a little more each time and rest a lot. Working out has kept my lung function high. It's my medicine really.

    Glucose Meters

I love my Freestyle. I used it for over 10 years until my insurance switched and no longer covered it. I have been on shots for a few years then switched to a pump. Pump is much easier to manage.

Pharmacutical vs Herbal -> Well researched herbal alternatives

While I don't know if this is considered alternative, I have begun incorporating anti inflammatory foods into my diet including cinnamon, turmeric, fresh ginger, and fresh garlic every single day. I saw a significant increase in function in 3 months - 86%-95%. Also, I do hard cardio almost...

What do you really think the Vertex discoveries mean for us?

I don't know exactly what it will mean, but I want to encourage you. I am 26 and just had my PFT at 95%. I have only been hospitalized and IVs once and since then (lung function at 57%) have been on disability and work part time. I am now working towards going back to work full time if I can...

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

Melissa, Wow - that's encouraging that you have children. My OBGYN isn't sure if I can have kids, obviously they cannot tell until I have tried. She says there aren't any specific reasons other than having CF and CFRD that would prevent healthy pregnancies. At this point, I am unsure if I even...

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

That is awesome! I am glad to hear you are taking control of your health. There are so many things in life we cannot control, but our response to them is in our control. I actually have to watch my weight (I don't like being above 118, just for how I look in my clothes and feel when I exercise)...

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

Wow - I am surprised you have never heard of the vest. http://www.thevest.com/diseases-conditions/cystic-fibrosis.asp It's an airway clearance device. I just got mine probably a year ago - maybe two years ago.

    Gallbladder surgery

Go laproscopic. I haven't heard of any doctors even doing the open surgery. My doctor was very competent and confident. You can find one - just don't stop searching. Also, if you are in pain, they will schedule you an emergency appointment. I had to call and beg, but it worked. Be your own advocate.

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

Gorf - I am on disability too. I work part time and want to go back to working full time, just haven't yet gotten there. Taking it slowly. I can work 25 hours with the pay that I make and I barely get by, but I get just enough. Here is a link to my blog: http://www.findingtruth1.blogspot.com/...

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

I don't have an issue keeping weight on, if anything I have to keep weight from creeping up. I'm still small (118 and 5'3" with a muscular build) but I eat anywhere from 1500-2000 calories a day. My advice, don't cut dairy, gluten or any of that. Eat whole "clean" food. I eat the same things...

    Gallbladder surgery

I've had mine out almost two years ago. Was a HUGE relief. I thought I was dying when I would have attacks (okay, maybe not that bad, but it is the worst pain I've ever been in physically). I went to ER for morphine until I would pass out. I didn't have MI as a baby so I didn't have that issue...

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

Yes, I put the Acapella on the hardest setting and do several big blows of air in a row, try to make myself cough and then continue on with the HTS. I probably do that every 5 minutes or so with the vest on. Works so much better than just the vest. The vest doesn't do a whole lot for me by itself.

Encouragement to those struggling to improve lung function

Hey guys - I just want to give you some encouragement. March 2012, my lung function was at it's worst - 57%. I was in the hospital for 3 days and sent home for 2 weeks of IV antibiotics. This was my first hospitalization yet, I was just about to turn 25. This Wednesday at clinic, my lung...

Please Teach Me about home IV's

I was on IVs for the first time right before my 25th birthday. It was SUPER simple. I was in the hospital for 3 days with a PICC line, came home and did two more weeks at home. I think I did about 6 rounds a day with two different antibiotics. I learned to flush the line and all that. A nurse...

    Pseudomonas

I swim 2-3 times a week and my doctor highly encourages it. He has never once mentioned Pseudomonas being in the water or it being a threat. I'm not a parent, but I don't suggest depriving your child of something she loves because it MIGHT hurt her. My mother never kept me from doing anything -...
