At what point should I bring him to the ER?

Both times I have gone to the ER, the doctors didn't do much except call the ER at my clinic and in the case of the first trip, give me some pain meds to help me last until I could get to the clinic. They don't have the CF experience and training to make a diagnosis and treatment. I agree with...

    "Mandatory" glucose tolerance testing?

I've never had much luck with the veins in my wrist. PICC lines have never been a problem for me (fingers crossed it stays that way), but any time I've had to get an IV or blood drawn from my wrist, you'd think my blood veins had become possessed by the Devil. Thankfully, the only blood test I...

    "Mandatory" glucose tolerance testing?

Bill, Sometimes, your no nonsense approach to CF and everything that comes with it is appreciated. When people are looking for only the facts in order to make a better decision for them and their life, you are one of the best voices on this site. However, the sarcastic comments on threads...

Your interest in the world's current events?

I don't find it difficult to keep up with current events. What I find difficult is putting up with how much BS is spewed on a daily basis. I view the world differently than a lot of people, because of my CF. I don't worry about things I have zero control over and I have a very low tolerance for...

Moving our family from Dallas to Denver in December

I grew up (and still currently live) about an hour north of Denver. I cannot give enough praise to the doctors, nurses, and other staff at Children's Hospital (it moved from Denver to Aurora a couple years ago) for how well they treated me for 21 years. They always went above and beyond to give...

    Camping

When I go camping, it's usually only for 2 nights. I don't take my Vest, so I miss about 4 rounds of that treatment, but I always do it first thing when we get home. I do have an acapella that I take, but I don't usually end up using it unless I really have to. As for the nebs, we have a small...

    Camping

I've been camping for as long as I can remember. I asked my mom when my first camping trip was and I was just a couple months old. As long as you keep her out of the direct line of smoke, I think she'll be fine.

    Need perspective

As a child with CF, I have never once resented my parents for having me. I've had more tough days than I can count, but I'm eternally grateful my parents gave me the chance to live. After I was born, they spent a couple years trying to decide if they wanted to risk having another child born with...

    Rude Staff

I'm much like Bill. I know how I act will impact how people act towards me. I always thank anyone who comes into my room to help me out and always give them a smile, even if I'm having a bad day. In return, they're a lot more willing to help me out and treat me the same way. I very rarely feel...

Iv abx and kidneys...rising creatine levels

Using the half a liter seemed to flush enough of the drug out of my system that my kidneys were doing fine. I was on Tobramycin and meropenem at the time. I'm typically on IVs every six months for two weeks at a time and just turned 22. Hopefully your docs can get this under control quickly.

Iv abx and kidneys...rising creatine levels

I had some issues with creatinine levels last time I was on IV antibiotics. Whenever I'd receive a dose of meds, they'd accompany it with a half a liter of fluid through the IV. It seemed to work for me.

    Favorite fiction books?

I'm a huge book reader, especially in the hospital. It's my way of escaping to someplace else. I actually run a book review blog for all the books I read each year. (http://findmeinabook.com/) My favorite book I've read this year was "How to Kill a Rockstar" by Tiffanie DeBartolo. I've read 60...

    Dogs ok or not?

I've always had at least one dog at home. As long as I keep our dog clean, I'm fine. He sleeps in my room and just as an added precaution, I keep a small air filter running near his bed. I've never had any health problems pop up because of him.

    Colorado Wildfires

I'm also in Colorado, about an hour south, and I've been basically trapped in the house since we got home yesterday. We can't see the mountains from our town, and they're a 15 minute drive away. It's pretty bad. Definitely keep the firefighters in your thoughts and hope they can start getting...

    Need your input

My parents were amazing when I was a kid. They treated me as much like a normal child as they could, and never really let CF hold me back. I was in soccer, going over to friends' houses all the time, and constantly playing around. If I wanted to miss one vest treatment because I wanted to spend...

    What's a healthy weight?

Hey Musicgirl, I'm 169cm and 58kg, but my doctors wish I'd gain some weight. The docs look at BMI (body mass index) to see if you're in the right range, and mine is a little on the low side. However, if I were to gain the weight I'd need to reach the ideal BMI, I know I'd be pretty...

Daughter Exposed to TONS of dry dirt in the air camping

I go camping several times each summer and to combat the dust and smoke I inhale inadvertently, I do an extra vest treatment or two when I can squeeze them in for about a week. It's worked pretty well for me the past several years.

    CF and living location

I can completely sympathize with your sister in this case. I currently live in the foothills of Colorado and the dry air is perfect for me. I do have an easier time breathing when I am in lower elevation areas, but I have a horrible, horrible time in high humidity. Nearly all of the health...
