    Praying for Micah

Very, very grieved to hear it, Tom.

HELP! My 10yr old is refusing to do airway clearance

I'm with Printer. A swift kick in the ass. My mom and dad would not have stood for this. My healthcare was early on placed outside the realm of anything negotiable. I could negotiate curfews, what I would and would not eat at dinner when I didn't like something, etc; but my healthcare was...

    Supreme Court Ruling Obamacare Upheld

CF patients can get TB just like everybody else. Where did you hear they can't?

CF related Sunburns? (Not caused by antibiotics)

I am caucasion w/ CF and I tan rather nicely. But I exercise outside year round, so that may help keep me from getting too white in the winter. I'm also getting more religious about sunblock when I go out.

    Who doesn't eat extra salt?

I probably oversalt my chicken seasonings, but I don't salt my food once it hits the table. In fact, I didn't own a salt shaker until I was 38. I do, however, make certain that my salt needs are met while exercising. Gatorade (and similar) does not have enough electrolytes for CF people. I...

I have CF and I lost my older brother from CF

I also lost my dad to IPF less than two years ago. The pain of watching him deteriorate, go on oxygen, deteriorate more, and eventually die in ICU of a pulmonary embolism is still quite fresh. And of course I've watched many of my CF friends pass as well. But this is the thing: their road is...

Do you go to work when on home IV treatment?

I absolutely go to work on IVs. I also run and bike, too, sometimes while actually infusing. (Of course, that will probably be after I've stopped feeling like crap from the IVs themselves.)

    Cayston on vacation

Geez, I just rinse mine out and let them dry on a clean washcloth. No wonder I'm sick.

    Maybe CF, Maybe not?

WildCherry -- I have reached the point where I almost lament that the CFTR gene was found at all. The sweat test was - and still is - the gold standard for diagnosing cystic fibrosis. The genetic testing is not definitive, yet so many people are hyper-focused on it. They think that if they...

    Can't keep up- exhausted

In theory, with improved fitness, you won't be as tired. It takes time for your body to respond, and you've only given it a couple of days.

my son is just out of hospital

The UK has the CF Trust, I believe. I have seen their lime-green jerseys while running the NYC marathon. (Them running, not me. Though I did that once, too.)

Fertility question about my son DDF508 mutation

My fertility report simply stated "no sperm detected." Mutation is probably not the dominant factor in whether a patient's vas deferens has been blocked (and possibly reabsorbed by the body). The vas deferens (there are two of them) are not glands, they're ducts. As such, they're as subject...

    Children affected by CF

"Afflicted" would have been a good choice, too; especially if the point was to tug at those heartstrings.

What song do you relate your CF fight to

RainbowBright: TOTALLY Born This Way. Great pick! I commented a while ago that for me the go-to song is It's My Life. Last Sunday I did the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour and brought a GoPro along with me, for timelapse stills. Monday I made a video of the ride. Guess what I used for a...

What song do you relate your CF fight to

In addition to "It's My Life" as previously mentioned, I also find that Garth Brooks "Standing Outside The Fire" bears a lot of meaning for me.
