Paige, I don't mind the questions at all, ask away.
To answer them (I'LL PUT THE ANSWERS IN CAPS):
Did the CF make your husband infertile or was it just hard for you to get pregnant? YES, 95-98% OF MEN WITH CF ARE INFERTILE BECAUSE THE CF MUTATIONS CAUSES THE VAS DEFERENS (THE TUBE THAT CARRIERS THE SPERM FROM THE TESTICLES TO EJACULATION) CEASES TO DEVELOP IN UTERO. THERE ARE SOME LUCKY MEN WHO ARE EXCPTIONS TO THIS "STANDARD" BUT NOT MANY.
If they use a man's sperm for IVF can they pick out the genes that don't have CF or something? ALL OF MARK'S SPERM HAD 1 CF MUTATION IN THEM. THEREFORE, WE DID EXTENSIVE CF TESTING ON ME BEFORE WE DECIDED TO PROCEED WITH THIS. I LOVE MY HUSBAND BUT HE DID NOT WISH CF ON ANY OF HIS CHILDREN. IF I HAD BEEN DETERMINED TO BE A CARRIER, WE COULD DO PGD (PREIMPLANTATION GENETIC DIAGNOSIS) SO THEY COULD TAKE OUT THE EMBRYOS THAT HAD A CF GENE IN IT FROM ME (BECAUSE NOT ALL MY EGGS WOULD HAVE IT AS I WOULD BE JUST A CARRIER-BUT I AM NOT). WE WERE LUCKY NOT TO HAVE TO GO THAT ROUTE BECAUSE IT IS A FEW THOUSAND MORE AND WOULD AHVE LIMITED OUR EMBRYO SELECTION EVEN MORE.
If so, is three a chance that it could turn into it eventually? DO YOU MEAN TURN INTO CF? NO, OUR CHILD WILL BE A CARRIER, REGARDLESS BECAUSE MARK HAS 2 CF MUTATIONS ON CHROMOSOME NUMBER 7 AND EACH PARENT PASSES ONE OF EACH OF THEIR CHROMOSOMES TO THE BABY. MARK HAS DOUBLE DELTA F 508 SO OUR BABY WILL BE A CARRIER OF THAT AND WILL BE MADE AWARE FOR HIS/HER OWN REPRODUCTIVE FUTURE. THEY WILL HAVE ONE OF HIS CHROMOSOME 7'S (WITH THE CF MUTATION), AND ONE FROM ME WITH NO CF MUTATION.
Hope this makes sense to you, I also have a website if you are still interested (or you can ask me here, I dont mind), it is
