2 yr old not eating

My 2 yr old daughter Alayna hasn't been eating very much lately. She will eat what we give her but usually less then half of it. She goes to the doctor for her check up on June 6 and I am hoping she hasn't lost weight. She used to have a little pot belly and now not so much. It could be because she is growing but I don't want to take any chances.

Any suggestions??

I think all kids go through this, especially around two years old. It is hard to see when they have cf. I suggest that you read Child of Mine by Ellyn Satter. You can get it on Amazon. It helped me understand that my child was in control of how much they ate, not me. I can only determine when they eat, how much I serve and what I serve. If I tried to control how much they ate it would only backfire on me. That is what happened with my first child with cf. My second child with cf thankfully gains weight well. But I had to let him push the plate away a lot. Then he would start to eat well a few months later. This has happened repeatedly with him.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 5 (g-tube placed two months ago and she has gained five pounds!!) and Jack, 3 both with cf

I agree, 2 years old is a time that they start to get their own opinions about what they eat and when. And their bodies don't seem to need as much. Most 2 year olds start to shed a lot of the baby chubbies and thin out. I know the CF complicates it all, and it makes you crazy. My CFer isn't yet 2 and already I'm going nuts about her not eating enough. But as states already, you can only control what you offer and when, not what they decide to eat. Just make the foods she gets high calorie and nutrients to make the most of what she does eat.

I am also battling with this. I have a son, Justin, whose 2 that once before had a very hardy appetite. But lately he doesn't eat much and it makes me worry. I know that this is normal for a toddler, but it's still hard to tell my heart that because his health and nutrition is always on my mind. Just recently I have started to ease up and I'm letting him tell me if he's full or done at the table and letting him go. It's hard to do, but I've noticed meal time has gotten less stressful for the two. Our check up is also this month, so lets hope they give us a green light.

I am struggling with our son (almost 3) right now as well. Since the warm weather hit, he is a bear when it comes to eating. Hardly any breakfast, pretty okay lunch, too busy for snacks (though I force it), dinner is the easiest. All of them are one cheek on the chair one off and ready to go back outside.

So, I am now trying to get some power packed stuff that is quick and easy, but it is frustrating. I am following him around the yard like a crazy person to get him to finish things. Not to mention my renditions of Bob the Builder machines to get him to finish my high cal concoctions!! (he loves when I do Dizzy and spin his cup)Man, does it get old some days. I am squeezing MCT oil on everything.

More than anything it just really messes with your mind. We just came from a clinic visit and they seem to think our last visit's weight jump was incorrect since he went back down to the curve he had been on before (between the 40-50%). Last time we were there they were amazed at the jump so they said back off the extra stuff...now I am to go back to what I was doing before! Arggh...suddenly I've gone from him looking chubby to him seeming thinner just because of a stupid clinic visit (all in my mind of course). I am going to let it go, do my best and try to accept it is just him being a toddler. With my older one I wouldn't have even batted an eyelash at this behavior but with CF it is so much a part of our mothering.

Just know you are not alone and you are still doing a great job even if she goes through normal toddler eating stuff. He will be 3 in 2 weeks and just recently lost his buddha belly if that makes you feel better...I know is just his body changing and lengthening but it still messes with ya'!
