In my case its a hormonal thing with the menopause...lol

but I was hoping it was hypo thyroid ....a sluggish thyroid will cause weight gain...

Have your family dr. do your hormone levels and thyroid test. Sometimes I get a litttle swelling in feet so I wanted a diuretic....but my dr. said no if you can see bones in your feet

you dont need one.

I have not been doing as much walking this last year as usual.... .infection after infection...led me to depression and candy eating...and now I can t drop the weight....

Yousay nothing different in your lifestyle so I think its hormones......i knows few other women with large weight gain in early fortys (no CF) or mid forties and they start to pack it on....and 20 lbs in 4 mos ....is not uncommon when hormones are screwy....

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I have also gained a lot of weight in the recent months. I was up 12-15 lbs in the past 9 months. I was already overweight to begin with, so now I'm at an unhealthy weight and definitely not feeling good about it. I am pretty sure it was due to the Celexa I started taking around that time. Although I've been off it for a month now and the weight is still packing on (gained another few pounds this month) - so now I'm not too sure what's going on. If it continues for me, I will also be heading to the PCP to get it checked out. Good luck and hopefully you'll figure it out

I also fall into the class of "chubby" CF'er....I definitely could stand to lose a few pounds. I am mildly pancreatic insufficient and take enzymes. My weight yo yo's, sometimes I lose weight rapidly despite eating everything that isn't nailed down and then sometimes, the weight piles on effortlessly. I do have Hashimoto's, thyroid disease. I would definitely look into checking thyroid hormones. When I got Hashi's, I gained nearly 30 pounds in one month, slept almost non stop and was still exhausted, my skin changed and so did my hair (became coarse) and I felt freezing cold all of the time. When my doc checked my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) it was very high, it was clearly Hashimoto's. (autoimmune thyroid disease, basically the body attacks the thyroid thinking that it is a foreign object).

I am also 39 and perimenopausal......my female hormones are fluctuating quite a bit now. I believe that has something to do with my weight swings. Perhaps that is what is going on with you. As someone else pointed out, diabetes can also make your weight fluctuate. I have DM on top of the peri-menopause and Hashi's, I guess I am doomed in that department lol. But in all seriousness, your doc should do a full work up especially since the weight gain has occurred in a short period of time.

I hope you find answers, even if everything turns out okay, it's good to have a little extra reserve for infections.
Hugs, Jenn 39 w/CF

This is when I was 23, I had just gotten out of the army and I was at college, I was home for a weekend and my mom asked if had been sick or if I was eating enough, I told her no I did think I was sick, and I eat like a horse(back then I could down 3-4 double quarter pounders with frys in a sitting). I was running a low fever, and I weighed myself I had lost 25-30 pounds. Went gp and was given a z pack. A couple of days after that finished, I started to cough really bad, went back too gp, gave me amoxicillin and told me to see a Cf doc. Called old cliniweep get number for the Dallas clinic, made an appointment, my pfts went down 45% from 125 to 80%, I was admitted the next day and had two week course of antibiotics, went on some protein shake, with in 3 months I had gone from slim fit 165(I'm 6'3Fyi) at the lowest to close too 220. Granted I was young, and was eating close too 6-8 thousand calories day with exercise, when I slowed down with the exercise because of a knee issue gain almost 20 more. Dropped the shakes, and went to a more normal calorie count dropped the gained 20, and then another 10. I'm to this day still around 190 at thirty, lungs are now a big problem but weight is not. If I get sick I'll drop 10-15 but I gain it back slowly(well not as fast as I like).
