after the birth- shared or separate hospital room?
The hosp I am birthing at has a policy of private rooms first come, first served-there are only 3 rooms and this is the busiest hosp in nyc-SO! The average person won't get one. I was very concerned about sharing bc of me catching germs. Technically there is no "reason" for a healthy cf mom to "need" a private room-but my doc wrote an order for it and insurance is covering it! The idea of sharing only bothers me bc while the average woman having a baby is going into the hosp healthy-all her relatives and friends coming in and out of the room are carrying all sorts of who knows what with them-yuck. That concerned me.
The cf doc didn't want me to have any worries hanging over my head going into this so she just wrote the order. Thank God my doctor rocks. She wrote cf/cepacia postive, patient must be in contact isolation. So it is written as a medical necessity and insurance has to cover it. It would be no different if I had tuberculosis and they refused to pay for an isolation room-they have to. It depends on how the doc writes the order. The only thing is every person/visitor that comes in the room has to put gloves on and a paper gown over their clothes, but I don't care.
