I've been on Tobra as long as 3 months. For about 8 years I did IV's every 2-3 months for 6-7 weeks because of sinus infections. I never had to many problems with Tobra.

So, in general, is it the consensus that we should stay on abx. as "long as it takes" to break down the infection? I'm starting to get the feeling that everyone staying on them longer usually leads to some kind of improvement that warrants going off of them. If you don't improve with the "usual" course of abx., is it your doc's opinion usually to just keep on with meds until you DO see improvement? Or is it the opinion of some docs to just go off of them to give the body rest after a few weeks, no matter if you're much better or not?

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone here. I guess the older I get and sicker I get and less likely I am to bounce back with just 2-3 weeks of abx., its just taking a lot for me to deal with this for some reason. Thanks for being there and sharing your experiences.

In the last 5 months, I've been on over 10 weeks of iv meds, tobra every time, along with either aztreonam, meropenam, ceftazadime, however only in 10-14 day dosages. My doctor chose to discharge me and discontinue treatment every time I was just starting to feel better<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> I have to fight him to stay on for 14 days! Consequently, I've been treated 6 times!! It makes perfect sense to me to stay on the drugs as long as it takes to SUSTAIN improvement. I don't know about everyone else, but it's like when I leave hospital, the clock starts ticking till I'm right back to where I started. And it doesn't take long enough. I'm F, 30, Calgary Canada. Interested in feedback.
