Thanks for your response, and great advice.
I am calling the CF team right now to inquire about Cipro, I actually never asked why? But I was told to start him on it when we got home from the hospital last week. He had struggled for a couple weeks with a virus and still has a productive cough.
Sam has also had Psedomonas and MRSA.

Oh, poor kid! My son had the same thing happen and missed his third week of college. It can be so hard to catch up, especially at the beginning.

I am a teacher with one son in 9th grade and another just graduated our high school, so this is a very familiar subject for me! Its good you have a 504 plan, but most people don't realize how much they can ask for. Talk to your clinic social worker for ideas. There have been lots of threads about them here if you search.

Here are some of my ideas:

Find out if the school has a home tutor or uses a home tutor agency. I would write into the 504 that you want a home tutor after every week of absence (its usually after 10 days out).

Some teachers put their homework or daily lessons on-line but if they don't, ask if they can.

Some schools have peer tutors to help kids catch up after an absence.

Get a set of text books for home so teachers can email you the work.

Get very friendly with the teachers and guidance councelors. Ask for team meetings so you can keep them up to date. They will also be able to help you fine tune his 504 for longer and shorter absences.

Schedule a tutor in the hospital. Usually the child-life specialist will have that information.

It can get overwhelming, but remember its the school's job to provide an education for you child. Let them help you work it out.

I hope Sam feels better and can get back on track.

When I was a freshman in high school I was in the hospital for 3 weeks. It was April when I got out and it was set up, through my high school, for a tutor to come over for 3 hours a day. My tutor was also a substitute teacher for the district. I just ended up finishing the year with the tutor. The PE requirement was waived until I could make it up before I graduated. I lived in Mission Viejo, CA at the time and was about 14 hours ago. Unfortunately, I would not be surprised due to all the budget cuts the district would not be able to help. Good luck to you though.

WOW
Thats terrific information thanks Jane,
And Thank you Jocelyn for your help also.
Just heard from Sams CF team, he did test positive for MRSA ( has had it awhile), Some staph, and candida, but at least no Psedomonas this time.
I know we all have wonderful children we adore, but I have to say life has dealt my guy alot of blows, adoption, CF, Diabeties, and he is truly amazing to me, never complains and every day I say Thank you God for this gift!
