A sex question for CF men (and especially their partners)

Hey all. I am a non-CFer with a CF boyfriend. Since we've started having sex, I've noticed I have a lot of ongoing irritations in my vagina/vulva. It feels a lot like a yeast infection (itching, redness, burning, irregular discharge), but none of the usual cures seem to have any effect. While researching online, I noticed a small blurb that mentioned that the salt content of CF-er's bodies may irritate the vagina, and I was wondering if anyone had had experience with this. The symptoms last for days after we have sex. Any cures/ remedies? Is the salt even the problem? Thanks for your help.

I haven't heard of this before but that doesn't mean it isn't an issue, I'm not as up to date as I used to be. Just a thought though, are you sure you haven't contracted a bacterial infection? Often times in women there are few symptoms and not necessarily anything like symptoms present in men.

Rarely does the male transmit a yeast infection to a female, it's usually the other way around. The salt thing I can't see being a problem unless perhaps there's a secondary factor of vaginal dryness. A UTI is possible, but symptoms would not disappear in a few days without antibiotic treatment. I think this is something best evaluated by a physician.

Are you using a condom? If not, you could be allergic to your partners semen. I saw this on Dr. Oz once. If its the case, you can be desensitized by a doctor.

Could be that as your partner takes many medicines (assumtion on my part) that medicine will start to come out of the body (no pun intended) within his bodily fluids. You know how they say that if you eat lots of asparagas then the urine will start to take on the smell of it.
I guess I am saying is that it may be his meds that are irritating you down below.

Well I am a women with CF and don't have any salt issues in that way. I'm guessing that the amount of extra salt you would get transmitted via sex is going to be negligible. I would go to your gyn while you are having the symptoms to get checked out. If yeast infection treatments aren't helping then my best guess is bacterial or allergic reaction. Good luck figuring it out

Forgot to suggest something - when you are feeling "normal", have sex with a condom (you should be using one anyway!!) and see if you have any symptoms. If not then allergy would be on the top of my suspicion list.
