I want to smack someone or something. 3 weeks ago Grayson went in to the hospital and had a throat culture. When my daughter called they said nothing cultured. Then over a week ago Grayson started coughing and crying alot more. And my daughter called the clinic again and they told her to go to the pediatrician, so she did and they said that her lungs sounded clear and they did nothing. To make a long story shorter, she continued to cough and wheeze and you could feel it in her chest so on sat we called the clinic again and they put her on Tobi but low and behold the pulm dr called on sunday and said she needed to be on Cipro because she had cultured pseudo 3 weeks ago. And she still hasn't been able to get it yet because we are fighting the insurance company because they are saying they don't normally allow that for an infant her age. WTH!!! So now the doctor is calling the insurance company to get this medicine for her. Why didn't they tell us that she cultured this 3 weeks ago and shouldn't she have been treated then???? I am so mad right now that i can't see straight. She has been through to much for them to wait on something like this. Don't they normally treat this right away. I am so sorry this is so long but i needed to vent and if i couldn't i would have to hit someone......<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0">

Hi,
I feel for you and I don't blame you for being ticked off big time. I think I would have told somebody off to no end if it were my child or grandchild. I hope that she gets the medications and that it helps her and gets her better fast.

Hugs,
Kathy

You have every right to be angry.

I'd be livid right now, and yes at Grayson's age, PA should have been treated agressively to stop it before it gets established.

I'm so sorry they are dragging their feet. As for Cipro for a baby, that is BS. It is one of the few options, it shouldn't be that hard to get it approved.

Go fight for Grayson grandma!!

We had a similar experience with DS and being naive first time parents, we took the doctor's word that he was okay --I was told "they (cfers) cough, it's what they do" A month later our regular CF doctor yelled at us 'cuz he had bronchitis and was culturing a couple things.

I know request that the clinic mail me copies of the culture reports because what we DID learn was to trust our gut feeling and not just take the doctor's word that things were okay. I was holding the poor kid over the kitchen sink and basement floor drain 'cuz every time he'd have a coughing fit, he'd hurl. We also began trying to learn our son's cough -- was it post nasal drip, more bronchial, swallowing wrong...? We were also told to count his respirations at rest (sleep). Usually that was the first sign that something was brewing or he was coming down with something -- sinus or ear infection...
