Acapella vs. Vest

If you hate the results (or lack thereof) from your vest, and not the vest itself, why not try using both together?

I know its probably not recommended or has been studied or anything like that, but I had a friend that swore by it. She said it produced very good results for her. I haven't tried it myself.

fine print: if you use them together and something horrible happens, I take no responsibility <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

I'll have to disagree with what Danyell said above about the Acapella/Flutter ...as I use my Flutter daily and have done that for over 13 years. I was also given the Acapella at one time to replace the Flutter, but I found it wasn't as effective for me. I have tried the vest at CF camp years ago and it didn't do a thing for me and it was uncomfortable, so I've always gone back to the Flutter. I haven't had manual CPT since I was in middle school.

I think you should talk to your doctor about what form of CPT you want to use. They should support whatever method works best for you and not push you into using a certain method.

My issue with the vest was hating the darn thing in use. It drove me nuts. Left me with itchy rashes on my chest. I couldn't see because my glasses would vibrate so I couldn't read, watch TV or anything. I got headaches. My lung function is good enough and my mucus loose enough that I have far less annoying ways of getting it up & out. I'm not saying that the Vest isn't a great thing. It's just not for me.

Leah - I agree with you about finding a method that works best. But I also think that doctors need to help to find a technique that we are realistically going to fit into the daily routine. That pulmonologiest tried to keep me on the vest longer, but I'd invent more excuses that I thought possible to avoid using the thing. And worse it made me not want to do other parts of my clearance regimen, like huffing and so forth. <img src=""> ~Juliet

I use my Accapella after my vest and I get the best results. But I am also one of the ones that actually LIKES my vest <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I like the Accapella as more of a quick fix so to speak. When I have something stuck I can use that to get it right out. I keep one in my purse and one at home just for that reason.

I'll be going on vacation soon and can't bring my vest (way too large to travel with) so I will be using manual CPT and the Accapella as a substitute.

Like others have mentioned you need to find something that you "like" to do and that works for you.
