it might be time to upgrade from just an antacid to a PPI.

why doesn't he take them often? do you have a HEPA filter in his bedroom? the room where he does meds? does he have dust mite encasings on his pillows, matress, down comforter?

</end quote></div>

June 1? Gosh, that seems like an awful long time to treat such a severe decline in FEV1. It doesn't sound like any involve have the sense of urgency needed to ensure too much permanent lung damage is done.

I'd recommended reading this article (even if you have already read it, it's good to re-read for a reminder....).

Amy...sorry for the delay in replying but we were out of town.

This is going to sound stupid but what is a ppi?

The Dr. does not want him taking the allergy meds to often so he does not dry out...He does do nasal rinses though twice a day. he is on rannitan.

yes he does have a hepa filter in his room but not where he does his meds. (in the living room).

Yes to encasings for the pillows and mattress and no down comforter.

I have learned all of this from you and cindy.

I hope to hear something this week. So will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for your response and do check out your blogs.

Proton Pump Inhibitor. Definitely ask about going on one.

That's very very very old school and outdated. There are several meds on the market that don't dry.... such as Allegra and secondarily Claritin.

Go to an allergist because clearly this pulm is about 15 years out of date regarding all allergy meds being drying. Shame on him.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>yes he does have a hepa filter in his room but not where he does his meds. (in the living room). </end quote></div>

I'd highly recommend doing this

And don't wait - get a 2nd opinion from an allergist and another CF center. Take care.
