Most men with CF are infertile so hopefully you are just a carrier. I was dx when I was 36 but I had other symptoms besides lung issues (GI troubles, bone loss, etc.).</end quote></div>

Confused never stated gender, unless I missed it. Somehow I assumed male too--go figure! lol

As to the other ??? I think others have gave input, so I won't.

Now <i>I am </i>confused on sign-on name...why confused37 if you're 28?? Just askin...

I had a late diagnosis (45) I was told I am obese compared to most cf pts. I weigh about 125 lbs and I am 5'4". So, needless to say, most doctors wouldn't have tested me. <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>

What country are you from? In the US, 125 lbs for a 5'4" female is just right, IMO.

I had a late diagnosis (45) I was told I am obese compared to most cf pts. I weigh about 125 lbs and I am 5'4". So, needless to say, most doctors wouldn't have tested me. I had seen the same pulmonologist for 8 year and was told I had uncontrolled asthma and needed to be on oxygen and lead a sedentary lifestyle. I disagreed and changed pulmonologist, after two years of the same types of problems, bronchitis, sinus infections, and then pneumonia, I found myself in the hospital my fev1 dropped to 58% so my doctor was concerned. When he read my medical record he found out I also had stomach issues. ( I had not told him because I didn't think it would have anything to do with my lungs). At that point he said it would be unlikely, but he wanted to rule out cf so we ran test. I was positive. Who would have thought. Now I go to a cf clinic that is helping me so much, I think if you have any symptoms, I would definately be tested. Good luck and let us know.</end quote></div>

I first wanted to say that 125 is not obese for someone 5'4", with or without CF. The term <i>obese</i> applies to people whose BMI (body mass index) is 30 or above, which for a 5'4" woman, would be 175 pounds.

Secondly, exercise is very important for people with lung disease (everyone, actually). It's essential to TRY to maintain lung function for as long as possible. I can't imagine a pulmonologist really suggested a sedentary lifestyle. Even transplant candidates with FEV of 23% are strongly encouraged to stay active.

Hearing stories like this irritate the heck out of me. There is so much misinformation "out there". How any of these people obtain and keep their medical credentials is beyond me.

It sucks that you have been so sick, but I'm glad you have a diagnosis and can receive the appropriate care.
