Dolline et al, I apologize for not responding sooner -- I don't get to check this as often as I'd like! Re cleaning the acapella green or blue, we recommend following the CF Foundation's cleaning and disinfecting guidelines (http://www.cff.org/ID=4441/TYP...ppingSpreadGerms.pdf). Here is an overview specific to acapella:
Cleaning with Liquid Dish Detergent - Soak the device and mouthpiece (or mask) in warm, soapy water. Use a liquid dish detergent (Dawn or equivalent), mixing two (2) tablespoons of detergent per one (1) gallon water. Rinse thoroughly, preferably with sterile water, and allow parts to air dry.
Alcohol - Soak five (5) minutes, twice daily. acapella (green/blue) is compatible with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Rinse with sterile water. You can make water sterile by boiling the water for five (5) minutes.
Hydrogen Peroxide - Soak in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes. Rinse with sterile water.
Glutaraldehydes (Cidex® or equivalent) - acapella (green/blue) will maintain its integrity using cold sterilizing solutions such as glutaraldehydes.
Remember that unlike acapella choice, the green and blue acapellas are not heat resistant, so do not put your green or blue acapella in the dishwasher, boiling water, microwave, or autoclave. Please do not use bleach to clean your devices either, as the bleach may cause the metal magnet and pin inside all the acapella devices to rust. Hope that helps!
