Alaskan Cruise

Sue,
I'm also in Alaska and would be happy to answer travel-related questions, but I'm not going to be much help as far as how it will affect your health (still new at this with a 9 month old cf'er!). I wouldn't think altitude would cause too many problems if you spend the majority of the time on the boat or at sea level in the ports. Some of the side excursions could involve elevation changes, though.

I have never been to Alaska, but last year we went on our first cruise which was to the Caribbean.

IMHO its a great way to travel for a CFer especially if your CF is progressed. Granted we didnt have to flight to the port that the ship left out of....

We were gone 8 days & 7 night.....it was wonderful. They really (I am guessing its pretty much the same on any cruises) are set up to accomodate almost everyone in every way.

I brought my 02 on & just had to fill out a from ahead of time regarding my medical equipment etc. I was hospitalized beforehand to get me in the best shape possible as a precaution.

My doctor wanted me to enjoy it as much as possible. I would do it again in a heart beat!

As to the choice of destination....it seems we have some people who can give you feed back.

Enjoy the trip!

Bring an extension cord or two for comfort of doing your treatments anywhere in the room. Also bring hand sanitizer for your purse for meals. After serving yourself from a buffet but before you eat sanitize hands. Before all meals sanitize hands since you probably pressed an elevator button at the very least since you left your room. Also try to only use your bathroom in your cabin to avoid germs in the public bathrooms. Order the "water package" when you get on board and you will have bottled water delivered to your room enough for the whole week. If you have to saught out water each time you want a drink you will have to pay for it and go out of your way and likely won't drink enough.

Here is what my friends wrote me about the trip for you.

"That Alaskan cruise is awesome !!!!!!!!!! We would love to go again in the future. Jeff is saying most of the time you are at sea level, there are some excursion that take you up, example the White Pass Railway in Skagway where you are above sea level. Not sure how many feet up it goes. There are lots of excursions to choose from so it should not be a problem for her finding something to do that would not effect her health. I am not sure what the weather is in Aug. as we went in June and at times it was chilly enough for light weight jackets. Tell her I said she is a lucky duck to be taking this trip of a lifetime. If you have any other questions, between Jeff and I , we might be able to help out."

I think it would be great to do this.
