Try and stay away from Smokey Bars.

I played Music for years in those Smokey Bars, I think the Smoke bothered
me far more than the Beer I was drinking.
Have a few Beers don't drive and remember afterwards to Drink
Lots of Water, But to be safe ,Bring it up at Your Next Doc Appt.

I stayed away from the Hard Stuff.. Made me Feel 10' tall and bullet proof ..

But I have had my share of Cold Beers.. Still have one every now
and then..Just don't go over board.

Great FEV1 BTW !!

If you are on abx's, its highly recommended to not drink. The meds are already putting your liver into OverTime, and drinking may make the meds less effective.

If you are going to drink, moderation is the key. Again, liquor of any kind at any time will put your liver to work, and some CF'rs already have liver issues that would cause complications with liquor added to it.

However, it is believed that a little bit of liquor will strengthen the liver, but it all depends on how it is doing beforehand.

I, personally will have a drink every once in a while, even hard liquor. I try to keep myself hydrated..Its a fact that the liquor expells through the lungs, and its been suggested that the liquor will dry your lungs up, so you may have a hard time coughing up anything the next day.

I find that just getting a bit of a buzz will suffice me for just relaxing, anything beyond that is a rollercoaster ride (i.e. bed spinning 8) ) that I don't want to repeat from my younger and more naive days.

I don't have CFRD, but do have blood sugar level issues, so I cannot add to how the CFRD would be affected. With that, I hope with everyone's input you can come to the right decision--good luck! (and have fun, regardless <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> )

When you get older and gain wisdom you will realize that life is not necessarily about having fun and abusing the body. There is so much more to life than that. I believe we need to find better ways to cope with our anxiety, and stresses that is healthy and wise for our body and soul. Unfortunately often abuse of alchohol and drugs is part of the American way and i refuse to fall into that. Yes, I did drink and throw caution to the wind. I was young and imature and did not realize what i was doing to myself. CFRD in my opinion is better controlled without alchohol at all. Try meditation, . My intention is not to lecture but to give a little insight into the future. You will live longer if you don't drink It's your choice. Your kidneys don't have a choice in the matter. Your body is depending on you to make the right choices.
Lovingly,
