From a CF perspective, there's really nothing to be overly concerned about with regard to alcohol. Just remember that it has a sedative effect, and drinking to the point of excess can make it more difficult for your body to breathe properly. Alcohol also has an astringent (drying effect) which may make mucus clearing even more difficult than usual. Folks with CFRD should be made aware of the problems alcohol can cause with regard to blood sugars.

Anecdotally you may be interested in knowing that many CFers can drink quite heavily without it affecting them in the same way their non-CF peers are.

Personally, I no longer drink alcohol for a variety of reasons, one of which is that alcohol is contraindicated with some of my meds.

I wanted to add my voice to that of Jazzysmom who said "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE." Something important to remember as you go to holiday parties where there might be drinking is that the designated driver must be the SOBER driver...not simply the least drunk of the group.
