I am borderline CFRD and I drink Gatorade occasionally. I don't drink more than 8oz at a time and sometimes I mix it with water. It does have a good bit of sugar but nothing like plain juice or soda.

Since CFRD acts a little like Type 2 diabetes, it is smart to stay away from the quick sugars, especially high fructose corn syrup. Researchers think there is a link between HFCS and Type 2. Quick sugars (most anything white; potatoes, white rice, white flour...) and HFCS spike your blood sugars so quickly it is really bad for any body. Cane sugar is better because it takes a little more time to break down into glucose. HFCS is in gatorade and is in almost every other processed food.

My endocrinologist has recently challenged me to eliminate all HFCS from my diet. Not only because of the horrible spike it does to my blood glucose levels, but also because it is an inflammatory chemical.

Doc mentioned something about dextrose too, I think it is bad for you, but sucrose is ok. Oh and stay away from sugar alcohols, those are super nasty for the body.

I'm trying to blog more about all this, but I have been to exhausted and sick recently. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
