Ryan, if you are getting abx 3x/day you would normally leave it accessed.
HOWEVER, you have the option to de-access anytime you want. So once you were comfortable, it would be possible to do her treatment in the AM, de-access, swim all day and then re-access before the next treatment.
I would not do regularly as the risk of infection increases but one of the benefits is that you CAN on occasion so she should still be part of the family.
And if you are off meds, then you only access 1x/month to flush which takes <1hr and then you are back to swim-ready again.
One thing I would strongly recommend is to get them to train you/your wife to access. The benefit of the port is lessened if you are dependent on a nurse. Plus, you are guaranteed to be more carefull/consistent in your technique to reduce infection risk than any nurse, as she is your daughter.
