Yes its me again...lol.
My hubby and I are trying to get pregnant and I am getting impatient. I need all the ideas I can get. I am getting ready to turn 36 and am getting nervous that this is taking too long. I am using the ovulation monitor and am on my second month trying that. I am starting to think I may need intervention. I am trying to avoid it at all costs but I may not be able to.
Please if you have any advice on things to try...ie.. medications, positions (sorry for being so blunt).

If I do need intervention, does anyone know of a good reputable place in the Los Angeles area?? I am hoping that if I need the help it will only be IUI because IVF is so damn expensive.

Thanks in advance!!!

How long have you been trying? I would definitely say that if you're at your wits end with trying naturally, definitely go the IUI route. I got pregnant on attempt #2 with IUI. The nurses doing the implantations always commented on how extremely thick my cervical mucus was. So it's not surprising that we have a difficult time conceiving naturally. IUI is very affordable and typically works within 6 tries (if I remember the facts correctly).

Good luck!

ditto-how long have you been trying? And only 2 months of ttc with the ovulation kit?! It could take longer than that to pinpoint ovulation.
Remember that you want the sperm waiting there for the egg. So you really want to be having sex before you see positive ovulation. Those kits are great, but they're not 100% fool proof.
It took us a year to get preg the 2nd time around. After finally talking to the doctor, she determined that my body actually wasn't working accurately with the ovul kits. Even though the kit showed I ovulated around day 21-I was actually ovulating around day 18. But I was delaying sex till I saw the positive test. So basically we were missing it.
My situation is probably a fluke thing. But just make sure you are having sex often enough and early enough in your cycle. We finally just started having sex from day 9-25 every day. That seems like ALOT! (and it was!) But thats what my doc suggested to do. I got preg the first month after starting that.
And relaxing is SO important. If you can squeeze in a get-away with your hubby that would be so helpful. Some reconnecting time. Even if its a weekend.
The other thing I did was switch from Robitussin to Mucinex extra strength.
I know how it feels-every single month you think it will never happen. And yes, you may need a little extra help. But be patient first and give it a good few months.

Leah I know the prices probably wont be the same every where but may I ask what you paid for the IUI's? Or maybe just let me know what a reasonable price would be. I live near Los Angeles and everything here seem to cost more than other locations. So I dont want to just go and pay for it before I am better informed.
Christian I so admire your persistence in trying to conceive.
The Clear Blue Easy monitor pinpointed my ovulation the first month using it. It was exactly cd 14. I know it wont be the same every month for me because my cycle is never consistant. But at least I know I ovulate. Before using the monitor I tried charting and using the cheap ovulation tests and could never pin point my ovulation day. I wasn't even sure I even ovulated. So I feel I have at least accomplished that part lol. I have had the monitor for three months but this will be my second month ttc with it because the second month of having it I was hospitalized.
It was so funny because my nurses and RT's were telling me that I shouldn't let being there stop me from ttc LOL. But I didn't take their advice because the meds that I was on were all cat D's. I just thought that it was funny that they were telling me to do it there. ROFL.
I am hoping that since I just got off IV's that it may have helped my cm become somewhat thinner. I have heard that it happens.
Christian I will try what you said. I am going to have sex more often (my hubby is going to love you for this lol) and using mucinex xtra stength. I am due to ovulate next week so I will start taking it now.
I guess I will try this until Dec or Jan and then finally break down and get help from an RE. Hopefully I wont have to go there and will be pregnant by the beginning of the year..wouldn't that be awesome!!!
I will not give up hope...you all inspire me and make me feel like I am not alone in this fight!!
If anyone else has any other suggestions please let me know I am open to almost anything at this point.

Oh one thing that I have noticed with the monitor, is that I dont have a high in my cycle..I go from low fertility to ovulation. So there isn't any warning per say. Maybe thats why my charting never helped because I am sure my temps were never showing it. My cm does change before ovulation though so I can usually tell that its getting close by that. My cp never correlates either.
Does that make any sense?

Khristina,

The initial consultation with the fertility MD was about $300. The actually IUI cost about $250. I'm not even sure to be honest because my insurance covered everything. The transvaginal ultrasounds are usually done too, and those are a bit more pricey.

Well I never used a 'monitor', I used the pee stick kind. I used either Clear Blue or First response, but I stuck to one brand per cycle-bc the brands do differ in how they show the response color.
I never did temps faithfully. From what I've read you really have to do temps for months and months strictly to get a real pattern. Checking cervical position never worked for me. Don't know if thats my body shape or what but I never relied on that.

In the end I relied on cervical mucus/fluid. I could eventually pinpoint the exact day and sometimes even the time of day that I would get eggwhite mucus. Thats after about 14 months of tracking. But again, the ovul kits were wrong!

Remember even if you're ovulating you have to have cm. I had plenty of months where I had hardly any, and some when I had tons. Who knows why. I think your idea to give it till the new year is a good one. Just really try to relax, bond and connect with hubby till then. Whether you stress or not about getting pregnant, it won't help your chances. <img src="i/expressions/hugging.gif" border="0">
