Beckie, Paws.. I think you know about the desensitization? But from what I understand you two are talking about having it because of being allergic to it?

I don't think this is what RTforJCinAZ meant. He isn't allergic to it, but is resistent (meaning the antibiotic doesn't work anymore).

From what I understand it's really not a good idea to give only a small dose at the time when you are already resistent to something. I don't think it will change when you just give it..

Seems like an odd thing to do for resistance. I would have thought that giving small amounts of antibiotics to someone who was already resistant to them would INCREASE the resistance of the bug to said antibiotic. Seems like a crazy thing to do?
Definately let us know when you clear it up what will happen

They systematically increase the dosage of a medication until your body accepts it (over a relatively short period of time). They will start out with a marginal dose, something like 1/1000th of a dose or something like that (im not sure of exactly how much, but it is minuscule). They gradually increase the dose, starting at such a small dose and increasing it slowly helps your body accept the medication.

I think a lot of you guys are confusing this with desentization for an ALLERGY.

He said it was NOT for an allergy, but was for resistance, which makes no sense to me.

Are you sure the doc said resistance and not allergy? Maybe the doctor phrased it oddly or something and there was some confusion? I've never heard of it being used for resistance and it doesn't seem like something that would work. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
