I had no idea of this until my mom mentioned something about it. If you are on ss disability your child is automatically eligable to recieve disability benefits until age 18. It is between 50%-80% of what you recieve each month. Now this has nothing to do with my son and if he is considereed disabiled this is soley on the fact that I his parent am on disability. I know with all the meds and insurance that we pay every penny counts. I went to the SS office today and talked to them to sign nicolas up but we just have to wait until he recieves his ss number, but the lady was super nice and gave me all the information.

I dont know if others know about this, I had no idea.

I am sure that everyone will have a different opinion about this, nick and I talked about it and to us it is a way to ensure that we can send nicolas to college, and at least help make sure that he is taken care of if something happens to me.</end quote></div>

How long will it take to get the baby signed up? Did they say? I had read somewhere on us.gov that the child has to be in your house for 1 year before they can get it, am I misunderstanding or is that like for step-children or something.

I had Isaac in 7/07 and started on SSDI the following July. My disability payments as well as my son's (for me being disabled) started at the same time. His payment is around 30% of mine.

Does anyone know if we have to pay taxes on our child's "income" from SSDI? I'm sure my CPA will know but I'm curious.

When our taxes our filed (done by a CPA), only taxes are taken out of what I received...not my daughter's.

The day the baby is born you need to notify the SSA. They can't start paying till you get a SSN for baby but if I remember correctly they will back date it to the baby's birth date.
