I am curious if anyone on here is on antibiotics all of the time prophilactically?
Im not talking about zithromax every day or every mon.-wed.- friday, i mean the more hardcore stuff like Minocycline, Cipro, Cefaclor, Doxycycline, Bactrim, Augmentin etc.
I have been on them since getting cepacia 10 years ago, and if i attemp to go off of them i get sick relatively fast. I am usually on 3 orals at a time and that seems to keep things in check. I rotate them every 2 weeks to help with resistance. Anyone else? I know i cant be the only one ....

Hi Diane, no I'm not, but i sometimes wonder if i should be, because i know quite a few others with cepacia seem to do what you do - permanent prophalactic oral ABs.
although i don't really get nasty infections, i can't help wondering if the bugs are doing me damage, even though i can't necessarily tell at the time.
do you find being on constant AB's makes you feel unwell all the time? do you have constant side effects?
i tend to lose my appetite and be a bit tired when i'm on orals and the thought of feeling like that every day doesn't appeal much.
Also, what about thrush? Or do you take regular probiotics which successfully combat this problem?
Sorry, more questions than answers I'm afraid, but it's something i've been wondering about a lot lately myself.

Doctors have wanted to put me on oral antibiotics like Bactrim, Cipro..but I am unfortunately allergic to them. So..the only things that I am on are TOBI and Zithromax. When I get sick enough, usually within two months or so, I am back on heavy antibiotics, IV's. It's such a vicious cycle....Hugs to you, Jenn

I am on tobra and ceftaz alternating each month. I also have cepacia and ABPA.

Taste fatigue is common, so are the other symptoms you're describing. However, if you're health is digressed to a point where you're on meds all the time anyway (the heavy duty ones like you've said) your body may be tired from just the effort of functioning. Over the last 9 months I've had to adjust to my body slowing down. It was hard for me to admit that I just don't have the energy anymore to do the things I once did. I've found new ways of making the most of the energy I have when it's available.

Something that really helped me was "the spoon theory." Go to the website http://butyoudontlooksick.com and look for the link about "The Spoon Theory." When you read it you'll understand what I mean when I say that I've learned to spend my available spoons wisely. I used to have many more spoons, but now I don't.

All the best,
Lauren
