I am on Bactrim for a few years now. I did try stopping it & the first thing I noticed was my skin break out. Prior to starting it every day I had frequent breakouts of the painful, under the skin boil type pimples.

I initially started it when I cultured MRSA & havent cultured it since so I wouldnt change it unless I start culturing it again while taking Bactrim.

In addition I am to take Tobi/Colistin on alternating days. Years back I used Cipro daily for quite a long time, but that was before Tobi & the more frequent need for ivs. I havent used Cipro in years and still test sensitive to it. THANKFULLY!

I am on tobra and ceftaz alternating each month. I also have cepacia and ABPA.

Taste fatigue is common, so are the other symptoms you're describing. However, if you're health is digressed to a point where you're on meds all the time anyway (the heavy duty ones like you've said) your body may be tired from just the effort of functioning. Over the last 9 months I've had to adjust to my body slowing down. It was hard for me to admit that I just don't have the energy anymore to do the things I once did. I've found new ways of making the most of the energy I have when it's available.

All the best,

Lauren</end quote></div>

Hi Lauren,
I guess i should have mentioned that i feel pretty good all in all. I work 3 days a week and on the days i dont work i go to the local junkyard and pull car parts and sell them on ebay. I am very active and looking at me you would never know i have anything wrong with me( except for the cough). I dont feel rundown, or lethargic, but there are times when i do, but that is usually when i am not feeling well. I liked the spoon theory, i saw that once before and really liked it because on bad days thats exactly how i feel. If i weren't on antibiotics continuously thats how i would feel on a day to day basis. I also take oral glutathione which has kicked my energy level into high gear and i LOVE that !! It enables me to stay active which in turn helps to keep me feeling generally well <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi Diane, no I'm not, but i sometimes wonder if i should be, because i know quite a few others with cepacia seem to do what you do - permanent prophalactic oral ABs.

although i don't really get nasty infections, i can't help wondering if the bugs are doing me damage, even though i can't necessarily tell at the time.

do you find being on constant AB's makes you feel unwell all the time? do you have constant side effects?

i tend to lose my appetite and be a bit tired when i'm on orals and the thought of feeling like that every day doesn't appeal much.

Also, what about thrush? Or do you take regular probiotics which successfully combat this problem?

Sorry, more questions than answers I'm afraid, but it's something i've been wondering about a lot lately myself.</end quote></div>

Hi Kat,
Being on the antibiotics is what keeps me feeling<b> well</b>.
I dont recall them ever making me feel unwell, except for maybe when i am on iv's. Sometimes they make me nauseas, but yogurt seems to help with that most of the time.
I used to get a yeast infection here and there when i first started taking them ( orals) 10 years ago, but the oddest thing is.... after a few years that all stopped.
I just recently started taking a probiotic after being diagnosed with the aspergilloma ( fungus ball). I take it once a day.
I have never had thrush from oral antibiotics. I did once have it from being on 4 iv antibiotics when i had my first embolization. I noticed within a few days everything i ate or drank tasted spicy ( even water) after a few days my nurse looked down my throat and said it was thrush, and they gave me those lozenges and within 3 days or so it was gone. That was 5 years ago.
Oral antibiotics may benefit you and even help keep you well enough to get your pft's up a bit.
Generally cepacia is a nasty bacteria and i cant imagine it not doing some kind of damage being there in your lungs. Continuous antibiotics helps to keep it at bay and helps to prevent any further damage being done by it. Cepacia is one of those bugs you dont want to allow it to get its foot in the door.
