Anyone switch clinics before?

We live equal distance between 2 clinics. We chose to go to the clinic we do because my mother in law lives in that town. Every time we go there we are there for 4.5 hours and I am so frustrated by the time we leave I could chew nails. I have actually walked out before because we had sat and waited for "just one more person". This seems to happen every time. We see the pulmonologist, respiratory therapist, dietician, GI doc, social worker and pharmacist every visit. I really feel like it is overkill.

We are now considering going to the other clinic for our next check up. I feel the first clinic is not the one for us, but since that is the only place we have ever been I feel like a traitor for leaving. We have 2 kids with CF that are both doing very very well.

Anyone have any words of wisdom. I did call the clinic we are considering going to and talked to the nurse coordinater and she sounded wonderful.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Christy

We stopped going to our local CF clinic for similar reasons; however, we still one of the CF doctors at the peds office -- so we really haven't made the jump to a completely different clinic. And our primary CF clinic is in the city 250 miles away.

Our problem wasn't necessarily waiting for yet one more person, but at our last visit, we arrived shortly before 7:45 and didn't see a soul until 9:15 and then it was another 20-40 minutes in between times to see each individual. We didn't get out of there until 1:30 and had a very upset child.

Are you unhappy with the quality of care you're getting? Are they not as proactive as you'd prefer? Doesn't hurt to check out another facility. Our main issue locally is with them not being proactive, issues with the community waiting room/concerns with cross contamination and a couple personality clashes/difference in agreement with a two of the specialists...

The 2 doctors have differing opinions on treatment to some extent. I am not really comfortable with the GI we see. We have butted heads a few times. They always seem to be preocupied with something else. THey seem to be proactive but when you ask about trials or anything new that is out there they really dont want to discuss it.

We have also waited a long time before and between providers when we area there. We will go an hour sometimes between. I have discussed this with them before but get told "we are a very busy clinic and it cant be helped" I just feel like this is really not taking anyones feelings to heart. I also work at a medical office. We strive to not make people wait. If you have to wait that long your system is not working in my opinion.

Hello. I am not trying to minimize the issues you have with this clinic, because I know it can be VERY frustrating when you have to wait forever for an appt. I did want to mention that with the clinic that I go to, I also see my pulmonologist, dietician, RT, social worker, and we even used to have a psychologist that would come visit with us. I am not sure if this is a standard at every CF clinic, but it might be similar at the other clinic you are considering.
My advice: be you own advocate. If you think that you can better care for your children which is more convenient for you, I would absolutely go for it if I were you. Don't feel like you're being a traitor to your current clinic. CF is a stressful enough condition without making it even worse! Good luck!
