The 2 doctors have differing opinions on treatment to some extent. I am not really comfortable with the GI we see. We have butted heads a few times. They always seem to be preocupied with something else....

We have also waited a long time before and between providers when we area there. We will go an hour sometimes between. I have discussed this with them before but get told "we are a very busy clinic and it cant be helped" I just feel like this is really not taking anyones feelings to heart. I also work at a medical office. We strive to not make people wait. If you have to wait that long your system is not working in my opinion.</end quote></div>

Wow, amazed that your experience is so similar to ours. The GI doctor was also one of the reasons -- he was sooo rude and mocked me when I asked a question about getting a liver function test.. the waiting... When we complained about the waiting room we were also told they didn't have enough room to provide each patient with an individual room. That the other patients were missing school, so they were a priority. Heck according to the CFF site, our local clinic only cares for 38 patients -- one would think they could schedule a little better.

We travel a bit of a distance, too. But when it comes to DS health, it's more than worth it.

Hi Christy,

We have switched CF clinics just 2 years ago. Lexi had liver failure when she was about 6 months old and only 1 CF center had a bed immediatly. We were followed there for about 2 years, but I was not satified. When we were there we would have to wait in a crowded waiting room for several hours. Our care was awesome when we were seen by the doctors and inpatient care was great as well. It was however almost impossible to get up with a nurse after leaving the office. I would call for simple or important things and sometimes never recieve a call back. I could always page a doctor, but who wants to do that for refills or simple questions.

Anyways we switched to UNC Chapelhill and have been super satisfied. They are GREAT. The best move I ever made.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I have actually walked out before because we had sat and waited for "just one more person". This seems to happen every time. We see the pulmonologist, respiratory therapist, dietitian, GI doc, social worker and pharmacist every visit. I really feel like it is overkill.</end quote></div>
This vs. incompetent or substandard care (which many of the following posts went on to talk about) are two completely different issues. Seeing all of those specialists can be precisely why one child can be doing well vs. another child who falls through the cracks because the clinic no longer routinely includes dietitian or social worker visits, or who doesn't have pft's done often enough, etc.

I agree that changing clinics, getting 2nd opinions, etc is NECESSARY when our child isn't getting the care they need or when we cannot communicate with our children's care providers; and we absolutely must be their advocate... it's just a very different issue than being willing to sit through seeing all of the many specialists that are part of a comprehensive clinic appointment.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I would definitely make my decision based on the quality of care are are recieving, not on the wait. I would wait all day long to see our doctor. She is that worth it.</end quote></div>
I totally agree with this. There are times I've needed more of the dr's time than usual and when they are willing to give it to me, I can't fault them for doing the same for other patients too, even if it puts them behind and results in me having to wait.

We've walked out as well and the issue had to do with waiting in a crowded waiting room with a baby for 30-45 minutes when we were one of the first appointments of the day. And yes, we had all those specialists, but they pretty much all spent their time with us criticizing our primary CF facility in the City instead of working with us and them to provide the best care possible for our child.
