Are we doing enough CPT?

My daughter is 2 and we only do CPT once a day for about five minutes. I try to do all sides but she is really fighting the front and under her arms so I do both sides of her back. I sometimes will do it twice but that is rare. I am seeing others on her doing three or four times a day and am wondering if we are not doing enough. Her doctor seems fine with what we are doing and hasn't suggested increasing it. For those that doe it several times a day, is this something your doctor suggested or is there another reasong why you do it so often?

Thanks for your thoughts.

When DS was first diagnosed and I was on maternity leave, the doctor wanted us to do CPT 4 times a day, which we did for 15 minutes each time. When I went back to work we did CPT 3 times a day for 20 minutes.

His doctor stressed the absolute minimum would be twice a day. Importance of practicing good lung care and keeping the lung clear. So during the week I do 20 minutes of CPT on DS in the morning before he wakes up, 30 minutes of vesting after work/school and another 30 minutes before bed. If he gets a cough, we do extra treatments or increase the time. During the weekends, he usually does his vest for 30 minutes after he wakes up instead of cpt.

I guess we want to make sure we're doing everything in our power to try and keep our son's lungs healthy.

I believe the standard is twice daily & it would make sense to me as well. You get the junk moving & out before bed & then again when you wake up in the morning.

Once a day for 5 minutes really isnt anything IMHO. I understand that your little one fights you, but this isnt going away....

I guess one thing to consider, too is your mentioning on a previous post about using a trampoline and how juicy your child's cough is afterwards. DS rarely coughs unless he's sick or coming down with something, so if your child is coughing, especially a productive cough, it's important to get that junk up and out of her.

There were times when DS struggled with CPT, wanted to do other things, but we had a routine and we stuck to it. And sometimes, because we'd done CPT since he was a week old, he'd sleep thru or fall asleep during the treatments. Maybe she'll get used to it, or maybe you should discuss the vest with your clinic.
