His last culture was clear, although he always cultures something, so I think that was a fluke.
The septra originally took care of the steno. malt. Our local cf clinic doesn't normally treat it, but his CF doctor in the city opted to do. Only symptom he had was an odd dry throat clearing cough, which we thought was just a habit. It disappeared within days of being put on the septra. I believe steno. malt. is becoming more of a common cf bug.
His cultures since then have been a mixed bag. Stopped culuturing non-mucoid pseudomonas, but then cultured pseudo florensen (sp) once. His most recent culture was two different strains of steno malt and a really odd one called bruvundiam something or other.
I'm hoping that someday we can get a true sputum culture to determine what exactly he may be growing, but he never has had a productive cough or much mucus. I also have reservations about how the local cf clinic does their cultures.
