Hi! Zoe just cultured apergillus also. Her doctor isn't treating it right now, it was a very small amount. My husband, the research fanatic that he is, did a ton of research on it, to find out pretty much exactly what LouLou said. If it isn't causing an allergic reaction, then they don't normally treat it. It can be a problem, a big one. You do have the symptoms of the allergic. Make sure you have them check your IgE levels!

Take care of yourself and let us know,

I don't culture aspergillus, but I do culture yeast, which is a similar creature. My docs and I just keep an eye on it and when the amount of yeast increases, we treat it. Each time we've done treatment, it's been for atleast 6 months. Usually an oral (diflucan, sporenox, voriconizole) but I have used an IV in the past (caspofungin) and that treatment lasted 14 months. Both methods worked well and I didn't really have side effects from either, which is a plus!

Well, I talked to my FNP today. It showed up in my culture from my clinic visit on 8/28. Not only am I culturing Aspergillus but my MRSA & PA are still at the party. I was on IVs for 3 weeks back in July for MRSA & PA, but the medicine doesnt seem to be working like it use to. They were talking about Colistin (sp?). Which I have never been on, any one have any experience with it? I am looking at being admitted on Monday, if they have a bed. I remember getting an allergy skin test done and the dr telling me I had a very small, mild reaction to Aspergillus. So, that concerns me. I believe they will be doing the blood work to see if its ABPA when I go in. I really dont have time or want to be admitted but I have watched my Sats drop within the past few days, so I will bit the bullet and agree to be admitted. I will keep everyone up to date. Thanks again.
