Boy does that sound familiar! We thought it was great when my boys dug a huge whole in our yard for an army foxhole and spent hours sitting in the dirt. <img src="">

The standard treatment for ABPA is steroids, since the aspergillus normally doesn't infect the cells, rather colonizes the mucus (much like PA). The goal of treatment then is to reduce the inflammation so that the colonized mucus can be coughed out. They also sometimes will Rx an anti-fungal for good measure. Treat vs. not treat will be determined by your IgE level. As an aside, one of the places that aspergillus loves to live is in the walls. So be careful if you are around any kind of renovation where they(or you) have to knock holes in the walls.

Blindhearted, when I cultured aspergillus (with no allergic reaction - we tested for that) my doc put me on VFend, which is an antifungal. I took that for a 3 month course and it hasn't come back yet. I've even had a bronch since then so we know the mold is gone for now.

I didnt have ABPA. I specifically asked for the test. The doctor said it needed to be treated anyway, even non-alleric. I have been on VFend for 2 months now. So far, I am doing good. I believe the Aspergillus kept my immune system where the MRSA and PA could repeatly come back. I was told Abx does not work on Aspergillus, just Antifungals. I am not on Predizone, my dr wanted to see how I did without it first since it wasnt ABPA.

I was on the Colistin for my PA. I have mucoid and non-mucoid strains at once. They both became very resistant to traditional abx treatment. I was but on Zyvox for MRSA.

I had been on and off sick from Oct 07 - Apr 08, before we really tried IVs. My local pulmo dr put me on the traditional abx treatments that I was showing sensitivity to in cultures. I would get better in those 2 weeks, but would relapse within a week of IV completion. I was also having slight bleeds, which is not normal for me.

Since we have begun to treat the Aspergillus, I have been off IVs for the longest time since I started back in April. I was last on IVs 9/28. I pray that it will last.
