Both my boys culture aspergillus and are allergic to it. They take 200 mg itraconazole (with cola, apparently it helps it absorb better?) a day. They have had a couple of long hospital stays due to it, with very low pfts, tiredness, wheezing.

if you are allergic to it you would show symptoms. symptoms are what mel has mentioned plus coughing up big brown hard plugs and achyness.

I wonder, because I'm just getting over an infection that I've had for the past 3 weeks. I was coughing up a ton of stuff, along with a couple of brownish, red plugs. I was really achy and thought I was dieing (not literally of course) for awhile there. My culture showed aspergilis, but my doc said it was nothing. 4 weeks later and I still have some wheezing and coughing. I should probably make another appt to get that checked out.

you should get an ige level done liz. if you do have abpa and it is left untreated, it can get REALLY bad. i was an absolute mess with my first flare up. it was left to 'brew' for so long i didnt get out of bed for weeks and the achyness was like nothing i have ever felt before.

Do any of you have ideas about how to keep the mold levels down in your home? I was just reading about pillows being a problem.

We just had those HEPA filters installed in our house. I can't tell yet if I see a difference. I also use those IONIC Breeze machines. They are expensive, though. And beware, the cheaper ones are no where as good. Anyway, the ionic breeze machines help alot with mold, and dust and dog hair. I notice a difference.

Also, I just want to mention that I had a period where I was having frequent yeast infections. I went to a natural nutritionist and there is alot you can do to treat yeast with supplements and diet. If its a real problem maybe you could try that. Its not crazy cleanses or yucky stuff, just a couple more pills a day and avoiding certain foods really. With that program, I got the yeast out of my lungs within 2 months.

Christian,

We have HEPA filter air-purifiers in each kid's room. What do you mean they are installed in your house? Is it an actual system, like with central air conditioning?

I am currently on VFEND and have been so for the past 4 months. I had been on and off IV's every 2 weeks and my doctor attributed it to my pseudomonias but decided to treat the aspergillus. Thanks to God, I am 4 months off IV's and feel pretty good. I don't have any aches or fevers. I use VFEND because I had a serious drug interaction with sporonox.
