I had an allergic reaction when I was 8 years old. I was in the hospital for 16 days before they figured out what was wrong. They thought it was pneumonia. Once they started the prednisone I was fine. My Ige levels were in the thousands. They always checked it when I was at the cf children's clinic but I'm not sure they check it any more.

My most notable symptom when I was 8 yrs old was extreme pain in my side when I was breathing.

I have abpa and I treat it with sporonox and advair. Works really well too but I can tell when it's acting up. My cough gets tighter and it gets hard to cough things up. Usually a little albuterol will help with that though. Prednisone is used when I go in the hospital or when I get so tight I can't walk across the room. I think the abpa gets works when your lungs are filled with more mucus because it grows so well in moist gunky areas. So when I get sick the abpa flares up and when I'm healthy it's just there. It sucks and sometimes you think you are really healthy but your pft's suck and it's because of the abpa. We discovered it because I was in the hospital once and did not have prednisone and I wasn't getting better at all. So then with a burst of prednisone after the iv's I popped right up and they tested the ige levels and they went back to a better number. Some people who have it really bad and the sporonox doesn't help them have to be on prednisone long term. Which I think would suck because I hate being puffy!! Anywho that's my two cents about abpa. Hope it helped!

ugh, steroids. that reminds me, i recently had an ige level done because i was feeling cruddy. got them back yesterday and they are high so i assume the aspergillus is back. it seems a bit weird that my first flare up was when i was living with my parents and now that i have moved back with them, its come back again. i swear there is something in this house making me sick.
