DS is on zithromax every day also. His doctor has most of his patients on the dose for everyday rather than MWF. Probably 'cuz they're like me and would forget.

When I had bronchitis last month and was put on a z-pack, I had similar symptoms the first day. I was dreaming about how badly my stomach hurt -- just laid their and cried Reminded me of being in labor. Figured it was because the first day you take two tablet and one a day afterward. I'd check with your doctor to see about going with the everyday lower dose. Hope you feel better.

I totally had a problem with MWF too. I still try to do it as best I can.

Certainly talk to your doctors, different meds effect people differently. My brother can't take TOBI because it makes his ears ring. TOBI makes my muscles tight and gives me headaches sometimes, but I still take it. Every person is different.

Are you taking 'actual' Zithromax (brand name) or does your pharmacy fill the prescription with the generic azithromycin? You may allergic to the dye that makes the pill pink (if indeed you're taking the brand name.) If that's not the case, then 5 months with all those problems doesn't sound like a fair balance on the "quality of life" scale.

Here's something you could try: it works for infants and anyone else who needs a certain med, but can't tolerate it because it makes them vomit.

1. Crush the pill using either the back of a table spoon or the bottom of a juice glass. The finer the powder you get, the better.

2. put the powder into the bowl of the spoon or into the glass. Add only a tiny bit of water to make a paste. (even your own spittle--mucus free though-- could be used if you don't mind touching it later)

3. Using you finger, spread the paste around the inside of your mouth, particularly under your tongue and on your gums.

Why this works The medication will be absorbed into your blood through your gums, essentially bypassing the digestion process and preventing the nausea.

Good luck.

I agree with alot of responders, please do talk to your doc about either switching to 250mg every day, or changing to another med all together. On my bottle, it says that if you have stomache upset, eat with crackers or a small meal. I haven't had problems with Zithromax...I am so sorry you are having these problems. In the end, I hope that everything works out and the right combination so that you don't get so sick. Hugs, Jenn

I take 500ml every night before bed. I really like it! I'm taking it in replace of Tobi...which I didn't like at all. I'm suggesting to you that you might wanna try taking it at bed.

I'm currently on azithromycin and have never had the symptoms with it that you're having, HOWEVER, I had those symptoms with zyvoxx a while ago...I put up with the nausea, stomach ache, pale clammy feeling for about a month and a half before I begged my doc to get me off of it. My thoughts on it were, "It may be helping my lungs, but if I can't enjoy my days of healthier lungs because I feel so crappy, then it isn't worth it...we can try something else." Sorry I'm not much help in reference to the azithromycin, but I know how you feel, and it wasn't worth it to me...especially if it's something that isn't getting better the longer you're on the med. The only thing I can suggest is to ask your doc about getting a Rx for Zofran or something like that. It's an anti-nausea. It didn't work for me like I had hoped, but maybe you'll get better results and still be able to get the benefits of the antibiotic.
