Bad asthma during pregnancy

Well.... as I feared it would, my horrible pregnancy asthma has returned. Its been pretty bad for the past week or so. I can't do much for it because I'm already on Spiriva, ADVAIR and albuterol. I need all those things just to control it when its doing good. With Logan, it basically got completely uncontrollable for the first 6 months or so. It got to to the point where I'd walk around the science building at school just so I could take the elevator up 1 floor instead of taking the steps since it would send me into a horrible coughing fit.

Right now my "attacks" seem to come out of the blue at times. I feel myself starting to get tight and then I start to cough... and I just have to ride it out till I can get in a puff of my inhaler. But before I can get in the puff I have to be able to stop coughing long enough to hold my breath for a few seconds. If I don't use my inhaler, I can still get it under control but it takes a little longer... and then I'm fine again!

So far it isn't as bad as it was with Logan (I'm hoping to keep it at bay with the magnesium) but it is still worse than pre pregnancy.

Anyone else experience this? I know the statistics on the issue (for people with asthma, 1/3 will get better, 1/3 will get worse and 1/3 will stay the same during pregnancy). I guess my asthma doesn't like pregnancy hormones!

Hey sweetie,
I have chronic asthma am dependant on steroids and have several ITU admissions for my asthma.
In my first pregnancy with Abigail the first 3 months I was GREAT better than i'd felt for a long long time but after that it went downhill and fast with that and the pressure problems i was in and out of hopsital all the time (in constantly from 28 weeks)
So I know a bit how you feel ( i hate it when people say that) Its horrible and i really hope it can get better for you. Can you get some IV asthma drugs? I don't know what ones you use over there but I know the most common ones over here are safe in pregnancy. Are you on steroids?
Keep your chin up and keep going <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> big hugs x x x

I'm not on any oral steroids though ADVAIR has a steroid in it. With Logan I was on prednisone twice but probably could have used it a third time. I really really don't want to have to do prednisone again though I'm sure that I will need it at some point.

well this is not going ot take the place of an inhalers, but it might help a little: try getting a hankerchief and putting some eucalyptus and lavender oils in it and then keeping it near by to take a whif now and then. Certainly not a miracle, but I find it does sort of 'ease' my airways a bit.

I did have quite a bit of added congestion/coughing with both my pregnancies. I wish I could say that I found something great that worked, but I did always have my albuterol nearby.
