Bad asthma during pregnancy

Do you have a portable nebulizer? Nebbing albuterol would get it deeper into your lungs I think and also it is easier when coughing since you don't have to hold your breath. I don't use inhalers very much at all, nebbing seems to work better. Drinking a little coffee is okay after the first trimester-that helped me a lot during my last trimester when my lungs got very irritated.

I had horrible coughing fits the first tri and even into the second tri with both pregnancies but it was worse this time around. Most of the coughing was in the morning - like the first two hours after getting up I was coughing. At night I would either have coughing fits when I first got into bed. What a PITA when you are tired and want to sleep but cannot stop coughing. If I was spared the coughing and was able to fall asleep right away I would wake up 3-4 hours later coughing for a few hours. Another huge PITA! Sometimes the inhalers would help other times not so much. Sometimes Sleepy Time tea with honey helped sometimes just a teaspoon of honey would help. I have found autogenic draining to be a huge help. When a cough fit starts if I am able to do some huffing and get a little mucus up that seems to cut down the amount of time I spend coughing. I think part of it is asthma related and part of it is my lungs not allows any mucus to hang around in my lungs. If there is something in there I have to get it out.

The "attacks" are so sudden - and they don't actually last too long. So nebbing albuterol wouldn't really help me in that situation. I do know what you mean that nebbing it is better when you're short of breath but normally I'm just fine. It's just during these "attacks" that I have the problem. I try to not do things to trigger them (like chasing Logan around the house, which he loves) unless I've done my inhaler beforehand. Sometimes they just come on out of the blue or even after I've gotten up out of bed in the middle of the night to go potty. I can't anticipate those and just have to ride them out. I don't seem to be producing extra mucus though I haven't been good about doing my treatments lately - just looking at the vest made me feel "blah" - like looking at food I really don't want to eat. My nausea seems to be abating a bit so hopefully I can get back on track soon. I don't know why I have that aversion to the vest.

As for the nagging coughing, doing albuterol (inhaler for me) really helps and I'm usually able to stop coughing in a matter of minutes. I really think my biggest CF complaint is asthma. It was never that bad when I was younger but the older I get, the worse it gets. I have ABPA and my IGE is through the roof so I think its related to that.

Hi, I am really interested to find out more.I know I had a conversation with Keepercjr regarding steroids and I wanted to ask charlotte1984 a question if the both of you can help in anyway.
I want to have a baby and will be doing IVF March, but I am steroids coming up to two years on and off. I now want off them because I am feeling some side-effects and I want to get pregnant. I go from 40mg Prednisdone down to 5mg.
My Cf Dr. is now reducing again and I am on 20mg until Tues and reduce to 15mg etc. However my IGE level is crawling back up and I fell very well considering I have done IVS (oct) Nov. I am hoping I can get through the first three, four months if I am successful getting pregnant and whitecells not causing me a problem. Would it be dangerous to stay on steroids while getting pregnant. I just dont know what to do. I have read up on the side-effects while pregnant. I have made a decision toget off the steroids and pray hard.
