Had the same problem. I was on tobi IVs for 25 days. 2 weeks after finishing the treatment I began to have vision problems (jumpy vision). The Tobi had caused some damage to my inner ear. I went to physical therapy for 1 month and did excersies to correct the oscillopsia (sp?) (oscillopsia is just a fancy word for jumpy vision). Everything is 100% back to normal now. It took a good 2moths for things to back to 100%. I would strongly recommend going to an ENT.

Hey what a coincidence this thread was posted. My youngest daughter who is 3 with CF had a 'dizzy spell' lunch time today. My mum and dad were looking after her for me and said that she felt dizzy and said that the house was moving! Couldn't think what caused it but I phoned the Paed. Nurse and said that it could be a virus or something to do with her ears and not to worry. I did worry though. Phoned our Practice Nurse at Docs and she said it might be down to a virus even though she isn't showing any symptoms. I have had a really bad cold and cough over Christmas so she might have picked something up off me. First thing I put it down to would be that it might be the medication she was on, ie preventative antibiotics and Colomycin. The preventative antibi she is on is Cefradine and it actually says on the box 'do not drive or operate machinery if feeling dizzy'. The professionals seemed to thing otherwise though and it wasn't the medication. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You guys should tell your CF docs right alway if you have ringing in your ears and dizzyness. It's not a good thing and they may want you off it. just tell them. Better to be safe!

well thats comforting to know that physical therapy will help if it is the tob because i really cant go on like this. i like theme park rides and all but i want to get off this one! rofl. if it doesnt settle down my doc is going to send me to a neurologist to rule out anything brain related then i guess the next step is the ent and physical therapy!

this has come at a really bad time because i need iv's again. we are holding off using them because of this so god knows how my lungs will cope in the meantime.

by the way, would this mean no tob in the future?

You should get checked by your cf team. Tobramycin can cause deafness, which is why levels are taken while you are on it. I also thought that it was not reversible ( which is on the leaflet enclosed with Tob.), and can occur even after the course has finished.

Safety Information

TOBI is in a class of antibiotics that have caused hearing loss, dizziness, kidney damage, and harm to a fetus. Ringing in the ears and hoarseness were two symptoms that were seen in more patients taking TOBI than placebo in research studies. Patients with cystic fibrosis can have many symptoms. Some of these symptoms may be related to your medications. If you have new or worsening symptoms, you should tell your doctor.

Hearing: You should tell your doctor if you have ringing in the ears, dizziness, or any changes in hearing.

Kidney Damage: Inform your doctor if you have any history of kidney problems.

Pregnancy: If you want to become pregnant or are pregnant while on TOBI, you should talk with your doctor about the possibility of TOBI causing any harm.

Nursing Mothers: If you are nursing a baby, you should talk with your doctor before using TOBI.

I hope you get better and get to drive and brush your teeth again

It sounds like the tobi may be what's affecting you from reading those links.

I hope the docs find out what it is soon!!

Best of luck
