being around babies/chemo patients

Could you take the older baby out for a stroller walk? Maybe buy a cheapo $15 umbrella stroller, just make sure it has a 5 point harness (over the shoulders and around the waist belts). I'm thinking that if you get your own you can disinfect it and also the cheaper ones tend to have plastic rather than foam handles for easier cleaning.

I know nothing about MRSA but I am thinking that if it is okay to do, the older baby might love some individual attention right now and of course stroller walks are great exercise for you. My almost 2 year old DD still loves our walks and I get a good workout going uphill. :)

Hi,

I don't have mrsa, but I do have pa. My mom was on chemo for 2.5 years for ovarian cancer, and I never transmitted pa to her. We lived together and spent a lot of time together. In fact, she even cleaned my nebs.

Chemo doesn't necessarily mean a patient is really immuno-compromised these days. They took regular blood tests on my mom and whenever her white blood cell count was too low, they'd give her a shot to boost her count. I'm not saying that this is true with your cousin as well, but it might be. I'd recommend he ask his doctor. If his white blood cell count is fairly normal, you may be okay around him.

Good luck! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My mom also underwent chemo for years while we were living together and I never transferred my PA to her. As far as I know, this was never even brought up as an issue by my doctor, or hers.

as far as the being around children goes... i nanny for a 2 yr old and a 6 month old.. have been for 5 months. they are my cousins. ive never been told i shouldn't be near them (though i do not have mrsa, do have pa). we've been more concerned with me contracting germs from them, not the other way around. there is a lot of purell around the house though... i think as long as you dont have an active infection and take the normal precautions as you would with any other person, you should be ok with at least the other child.
